Senior In-house Legal Counsel (Regulatory)
Based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, you will contribute towards global compliance operations for entities spanning investment services, banking, and virtual assets. In this role, you will manage various global licenses, including our Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) license. You will conduct compliance monitoring, gap analysis, manage licensing requirements, liaise with relevant regulatory authorities across multiple international jurisdictions, and build compliance frameworks that satisfy legal and regulatory obligations.
This isn't compliance administration. It's executing compliance operations for multiple global entities where your legal and regulatory expertise enables the business to operate smoothly.

What You'll Do
- Manage compliance monitoring for assigned global entities across investment services, banking, and virtual assets, with a focus on our Labuan FSA and other offshore licenses.
Conduct legal and compliance reviews and gap analysis to identify risks and recommend remediation. - Monitor legal, regulatory and industry changes and assess business impact. Proactively update legal and compliance frameworks and support the implementation of required changes as global regulations evolve.
- Manage licensing requirements and regulatory engagement. Review, draft and support the submission of licensing applications, regulatory filings and correspondence; respond to regulatory queries, and represent Deriv during inspections by Labuan FSA and other global regulators.
- Build and maintain legal and regulatory policies, procedures and controls to ensure global frameworks meet all international regulatory obligations.
- Prepare regulatory reports and submissions for the relevant global regulators, ensuring high accuracy and timeliness. Review supporting documentation and prepare legal and regulatory summaries, risk assessments, management updates, and board papers where required.
- Support regulatory inspections and internal/external audits. Maintain documentation and act as the key point of contact.
- Provide guidance to internal teams globally, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical terms. Advise on the interpretation and practical application of licensing, reporting, governance, and other regulatory obligations.
- Work closely with Legal, internal stakeholders, and external advisers to address regulatory matters and support engagement with regulators where required.
- Partner with engineers to build AI automation for compliance and legal operations. Design tools that eliminate manual processes and reporting.
Who You Are
- You have a law degree or legal qualification. You keep your knowledge current through professional development.
- You have 5+ years in regulatory compliance in financial services. You've conducted compliance monitoring, worked with regulators, and managed licensing or regulatory requirements.
- You understand regulatory frameworks for investment services, banking, or virtual assets.
- Solid experience with the Labuan FSA or similar global offshore financial regulators is highly valuable.
- You work independently. You make judgment calls, prioritize effectively, and take accountability for outcomes without constant supervision.
- You're comfortable with AI and automation. You use AI tools or you're ready to learn.
- You communicate clearly across global teams. Strong English is required. You explain regulatory requirements easily to non-compliance teams.

You'll execute compliance for multiple entities with different regulatory frameworks. You’ll need to make sound legal and regulatory judgments when requirements are unclear or guidance has not been formalised.
The work requires rigor and attention to regulatory detail. In return, you'll build compliance expertise across multiple jurisdictions and offshore regulatory frameworks that’s valuable as fintech compliance becomes more complex.
