Senior Indoor Air Quality & Education Program Manager

POSITION

The Senior Indoor Air Quality & Education Program Manager leads CleanAIRE NC’s indoor air quality (IAQ) education and program initiatives by providing technical expertise, program leadership, and strategic direction to advance healthier indoor environments across North Carolina.


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Programs and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, this position leads the development and implementation of indoor air quality education, monitoring initiatives, and technical resources that support CleanAIRE NC’s mission. The role serves as the organization’s primary Indoor Air Quality subject matter expert while expanding educational opportunities through the CleanAIRE Academy and fostering partnerships with communities, schools, healthcare organizations, academic institutions, and public agencies.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Indoor Air Quality & Education Program Manager ensures that CleanAIRE NC’s indoor air quality initiatives and educational programs are innovative, collaborative, and impactful in advancing environmental and public health outcomes. Key responsibilities include:


Indoor Air Quality Program Leadership

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of CleanAIRE NC’s Indoor Air Quality initiatives.
  • Serve as the organization’s technical resource on indoor air quality, healthy buildings, ventilation, and environmental health.
  • Identify opportunities to expand IAQ programming through partnerships, grants, and community initiatives.
  • Monitor emerging research, technologies, and best practices to strengthen organizational programming.
  • Manage grant-funded IAQ projects, ensuring successful implementation, reporting, and program outcomes.



Educational Program Development & Training

  • Lead the administration, development, and continuous growth of the CleanAIRE Academy learning platform.
  • Design and develop educational curriculum, online learning modules, workshops, and technical resources for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Justice, Community Science, Health, and Advocacy teams to develop integrated educational programs, curriculum, and training materials that reflect CleanAIRE NC’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure educational materials are scientifically accurate, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Evaluate educational programming and recommend improvements based on participant feedback and program outcomes.



Indoor Air Quality Monitoring & Technical Support

  • Oversee indoor air quality monitoring initiatives, including sensor deployment, project coordination, and data collection.
  • Analyze environmental monitoring data and prepare technical reports, presentations, and educational resources.
  • Collaborate with the Community Science team to integrate indoor and outdoor air quality data into educational and community initiatives.
  • Translate technical and scientific information into meaningful resources for community members, partners, and stakeholders.



Partnerships & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, universities, healthcare organizations, community groups, government agencies, and environmental partners.
  • Represent CleanAIRE NC at conferences, workshops, public meetings, and community events.
  • Deliver presentations, technical trainings, and educational workshops across North Carolina.
  • Support community education efforts by providing technical guidance and environmental health expertise.



Cross-Department Collaboration & Program Support

  • Collaborate with internal program teams to ensure IAQ initiatives align with organizational priorities and strategic goals.
  • Support grant proposal development by providing technical expertise, educational content, and program design.
  • Partner with Communications and Marketing to promote educational resources, community engagement initiatives, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Mentor interns, volunteers, fellows, and project staff supporting indoor air quality initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Building Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience managing environmental, public health, education, or nonprofit programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, managing grant-funded initiatives, and developing educational curricula or training programs.
  • Experience administering Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with indoor air quality monitoring technologies, environmental data interpretation, and technical reporting preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with higher education institutions, community organizations, or public health agencies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of indoor air quality, environmental health, healthy buildings, ventilation, climate, and environmental justice.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into accessible educational content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), project management software, and data visualization tools.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role operates in a hybrid work environment that includes remote work, in-office collaboration, field work, and in-person meetings throughout North Carolina.


The position requires a highly organized and collaborative professional who can manage multiple projects while balancing technical leadership, educational program development, and community engagement. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support educational events, community meetings, trainings, conferences, and grant-funded initiatives.

Salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience and organizational salary structure.

This role requires periodic travel throughout North Carolina and may include occasional evening or weekend work for community events, trainings, conferences, and stakeholder engagement.
