Summary
Contract senior PostgreSQL DBA role in Canberra designing, deploying and maintaining highly available enterprise PostgreSQL environments across RHEL, OpenShift and VMware, automating with Ansible, CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code to support critical government services. Pays $140–150/hour incl. super + GST; NV1 clearance required.

About the Role
This role is responsible for designing, deploying and maintaining enterprise PostgreSQL database environments across RHEL, OpenShift and VMware platforms. Leveraging Ansible, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code, you will enhance database performance, security, reliability and availability while supporting critical government services and driving infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy and maintain PostgreSQL environments using Ansible CI/CD pipelines

Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code for automated database deployments

Configure and manage PostgreSQL high availability, replication and failover solutions

Implement backup, disaster recovery and point-in-time recovery strategies

Optimise database performance, monitoring, capacity and operational reliability

Implement database security controls, authentication, access management and encryption
Skills & Experience
- Minimum five years' experience in PostgreSQL database administration

Experience designing and maintaining PostgreSQL deployments using Ansible and CI/CD
- Strong experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-CodeExperience designing and maintaining PostgreSQL deployments using Ansible and CI/CD

Expertise in PostgreSQL performance optimisation, replication and high availability

Experience working across RHEL, OpenShift and VMware environments
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL security, LDAP/Active Directory, RBAC and TLS encryption
Existing NV1 security clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position.
