A 6-month contract (outside IR35, £400–£500/day) sourced via recruiter VIQU for a senior engineer to hands-on deliver business-critical infrastructure projects — Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Hyper-V/VMware virtualisation, disaster recovery, networking and security — onsite four days a week in central London.
Senior Infrastructure Projects Engineer (Windows, Microsoft 365 & Cloud) – 6 Month Contract – London
VIQU are supporting an organisation in the search for a Senior Infrastructure Projects Engineer to deliver a varied programme of business-critical infrastructure, cloud and security projects.
The successful Senior Infrastructure Projects Engineer will take hands-on ownership of projects across Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, virtualisation, disaster recovery, networking and infrastructure security. This is a delivery-focused position suited to an engineer with a track record of completing defined infrastructure projects from initial discovery and planning through to implementation, testing, documentation and operational handover.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver Windows Server rebuild and modernisation projects, including domain controllers, file servers, DFS services and supporting infrastructure.
- Design and deploy a new Hyper-V platform and support the migration of workloads from the existing VMware environment.
- Enhance Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange hybrid and wider Microsoft 365 integrations.
- Develop, test and document disaster recovery capabilities, including recovery playbooks, remediation actions and operational procedures.
- Contribute to SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams migration initiatives alongside Microsoft Purview, data retention and information protection improvements.
- Support infrastructure networking and security projects covering firewalls, routing, connectivity, monitoring and SOC integration.
- Work with internal stakeholders, MSPs and third-party suppliers to take projects from discovery and design through to implementation and handover.
Key Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience delivering hands-on infrastructure projects within complex enterprise environments.
- Strong Windows Server engineering skills, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS and server migrations.
- Experience working across VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualised environments.
- Experience delivering hybrid Microsoft 365 projects involving Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams or identity integration.
- Demonstrable experience designing, testing and documenting disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
- Good understanding of Azure infrastructure, networking and security principles.
- Experience producing HLDs, LLDs, implementation plans, recovery documentation, runbooks and operational handover materials.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with internal teams, MSPs and third-party suppliers.
