Senior IREG & Network Test Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior IREG & Network Test Engineer based in United States.
This role sits at a critical technical stage of mobile network operator onboarding, ensuring roaming and connectivity services meet rigorous validation standards before launch.
You will own the IREG testing lifecycle, from initial network registration and authentication through signaling, messaging, data connectivity, and final roaming sign-off.
The position combines deep telecommunications expertise with a strong automation mindset to replace manual testing with scalable, repeatable validation processes.
You will design test strategies, build automation frameworks, analyze complex network traces, and turn production issues into durable regression coverage.
Working across signaling, routing, billing, NOC, product, IPX, and mobile network operator teams, you will help resolve issues spanning multiple technical domains.
Your work will directly support market readiness and reliable connectivity across terrestrial and non-terrestrial network environments.
This is an opportunity to contribute to advanced telecommunications infrastructure while helping establish robust testing practices for emerging NTN technologies.
Accountabilities
- Define comprehensive IREG test strategies, including test cases, pass/fail criteria, network tracing procedures, validation metrics, and formal partner sign-off processes.
- Execute end-to-end roaming validation covering network registration, attach sequences, authentication, S6a/S6d, SGd SMS-over-NAS, IP, and NIDD data paths.
- Execute industry-standard roaming test suites while developing additional validation scenarios specifically designed for Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) environments.
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve automated testing harnesses and laboratory environments capable of executing core industry and network-specific routing scenarios consistently.
- Analyze Diameter and SS7 traces, Wireshark captures, device logs, and network logs to isolate configuration and interoperability issues across internal, IPX, and MNO environments.
- Convert onboarding and production failures into repeatable regression tests and manage defects through root cause analysis, remediation, validation, and retesting.
- Develop and publish dashboards covering test coverage, validation cycle times, defect trends, and market-readiness metrics for technical and onboarding leadership.
- Collaborate closely with signaling, routing, billing, NOC, and product teams, as well as external IPX providers and MNO testing teams, to coordinate technical validation and issue resolution.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in roaming validation, mobile core operations, interconnect routing, IREG testing, telecommunications network testing, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of Diameter routing and SS7/MAP concepts, including S6a/S6d, SGd, roaming authentication, and registration flows.
- Advanced protocol troubleshooting capabilities, including extensive experience using Wireshark and network traces to diagnose complex failures involving multiple external parties.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automated telecommunications testing frameworks using Python or comparable programming languages.
- Experience integrating automated testing into modern CI/CD environments and maintaining reliable, repeatable regression pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of IR.21/RAEX data profiles, PLMN structures, IMSI records, and TADIG codes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail when diagnosing complex network and signaling issues.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across engineering, operations, product, and external partner teams.
- Practical experience with NB-IoT, NTN satellite architectures, NIDD data paths, or cellular device laboratory environments is preferred.
- Familiarity with IMSI tracing tools, carrier-grade Diameter/SS7 diagnostic platforms, Jira, and Confluence is a plus.
- Experience connecting network signaling validation with TAP/BCE billing verification is preferred.
- Competitive base salary of $155,000–$165,000 for San Francisco, CA locations.
- Base salary of $135,000–$145,000 for other U.S. locations.

- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- Retirement plan.
- Monthly wellness and education reimbursement allowances.
- Generous paid time off and holiday policy.
- Opportunity to temporarily work abroad.
- Opportunity to work on a commercial direct-to-device satellite connectivity network.
- Access to a multidisciplinary global team spanning software, hardware, chipsets, telecommunications, satellite systems, and network virtualization.
- Flexible, open, transparent, and inclusive international work culture.
- Equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodation support for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans.
