Role: Senior IT Project Manager – Utility Technology Programs
Location: Des Moines, IA (Onsite – 3 Days a week)
Job Description
As a Senior IT Project Manager – Utility Technology Programs, you will lead strategic technology and business transformation initiatives that support electric utility operations across multiple business units. In this role, you will guide complex enterprise programs from planning through testing, deployment, and production go-live—bringing structure, clarity, and momentum to cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
This is an opportunity for a seasoned project leader with strong utility industry knowledge to drive modernization, operational excellence, and technology-enabled transformation in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end delivery of utility technology programs, business transformation initiatives, and enterprise implementation projects.
Develop, manage, and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, resource forecasts, milestones, and executive-level status reporting.
Coordinate activities across business, IT, vendor, operational, and client stakeholder teams to support successful program execution.
Manage project scope, risks, issues, dependencies, change requests, decisions, and escalation processes.
Oversee System Integration Testing, User Acceptance Testing, deployment planning, release readiness, and production go-live activities.
Facilitate project governance meetings, steering committee updates, working sessions, and stakeholder reviews.
Ensure technology solutions align with business objectives, operational requirements, quality standards, and delivery expectations.
Drive timely issue resolution and decision-making across multiple stakeholder groups and delivery teams.
Manage vendor relationships, third-party partners, and delivery performance against program objectives.
Support compliance with project management standards, governance processes, documentation requirements, and quality controls.
Lead cross-functional teams delivering utility modernization, operational technology, digital transformation, and enterprise technology initiatives.
Communicate clearly and proactively with executive leadership, client stakeholders, project teams, and delivery partners.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
8+ years of IT project management experience delivering large-scale technology programs.
Proven experience managing enterprise application, system implementation, integration, or digital transformation projects.
Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
Experience with project planning, budgeting, forecasting, resource management, risk management, issue management, and stakeholder engagement.
Demonstrated ability to manage distributed teams, vendors, third-party partners, and cross-functional project groups.
Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, leadership, and executive reporting skills.
Strong ability to align business needs, operational requirements, and technology delivery outcomes.
Experience in the Electric Utility, Energy, Gas, Transmission, or Distribution industry is preferred.
Experience delivering Operational Technology, utility operations, grid modernization, or enterprise technology initiatives is preferred.
Familiarity with outage management, control center environments, asset management, field operations, or utility operational processes is preferred.
PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
Experience managing programs through SIT, UAT, deployment, release planning, and production go-live is preferred.
The base salary for this position is $92,250 to $125,000 plus, incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on work location, qualifications, skills, education, experience, and competencies. Benefits available to eligible employees in this role include medical, dental, and vision insurance, comprehensive employee assistance program, 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off and holidays and paid learning days.
