Senior Java Backend Developer
Summary
Data Edge is hiring a Senior Java Backend Developer for a partner's team on a B2B, hybrid contract. Day to day, the person designs scalable Java/Spring backend services and RESTful APIs, builds Kafka messaging integrations, optimizes Oracle/PostgreSQL interactions, and writes unit tests with JUnit and Mockito.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer to join our partner's team and contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of robust backend applications. In this role, you will design and implement scalable backend services, develop RESTful APIs, and work with modern technologies to deliver reliable, high-performance software solutions.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring, a solid understanding of backend architecture and MVC principles, and practical experience with messaging systems such as Kafka. You will also work with relational databases, including Oracle and PostgreSQL, and use testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito to ensure code quality and application reliability.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and the Spring framework.
Build, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs to support business requirements and system integrations.
Apply MVC architecture principles and software design best practices to develop maintainable and efficient applications.
Implement and maintain event-driven solutions and messaging integrations using Apache Kafka.
Design, develop, and optimize database queries and interactions with Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Ensure application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
Write unit tests and support automated testing using JUnit and Mockito.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues across backend services and applications.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions and technical decisions.
Collaborate with business analysts, frontend developers, QA engineers, and other technical stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
Maintain and improve existing applications, ensuring code quality and long-term maintainability.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and follow established development standards and best practices.
Requirements
Proven professional experience as a Senior Java Backend Developer or in a similar backend development role.
Strong knowledge of Java and hands-on experience with the Spring framework.
Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs.
Good understanding of MVC architecture, object-oriented programming, and software design principles.
Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and messaging-based integrations.
Experience working with relational databases, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Practical experience writing unit tests using JUnit and Mockito.
Strong understanding of backend application architecture, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
Ability to write clean, efficient, testable, and maintainable code.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
