Working directly under the guidance of the Engineering Lead, you will take holistic, end-to-end ownership of key technical deliverables and feature sets. In this role, you will balance strong technical execution with leadership responsibilities, acting as a key technical resource for the team and actively mentoring junior developers to elevate overall engineering excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Holistic Feature Ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of complex features and system components, from initial technical design and API specifications through to implementation, testing, and deployment in a cloud-native environment.
- Collaborate with Technical Leadership: Work closely under the Engineering Lead to align on architectural patterns, translate high-level designs into robust code, and help drive the technical roadmap of the scrum team.
- Mentor and Elevate Junior Engineers: Actively mentor and guide junior developers, conducting constructive code reviews, sharing best practices in software design, and fostering a collaborative culture of continuous learning.
- Develop Scalable Microservices: Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, containerized Java Spring Boot microservices, ensuring high performance, reliability, and adherence to clean coding standards.
- Leverage AI Tooling for Productivity: Utilize and integrate modern AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, advanced code analyzers) to accelerate development velocity, enhance code quality, and adopt innovative engineering practices.
- Build Robust System Integrations: Develop and implement high-performance APIs and event-driven integrations to connect platforms with various firm-wide control systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Collaborate on Full-Stack Integration: Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to build seamless user experiences, developing the APIs that power modern Micro-Frontend (MFE) applications built with React or Angular.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with a strong track record of building robust, production-grade backend systems.
- Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Java 17 or above.
- Deep hands-on experience with the Spring Boot framework.
- Solid experience with event streaming and messaging platforms, specifically Apache Kafka.
- Experience with in-memory data stores/caching mechanisms, specifically Redis.
- Strong understanding and practical application of software Design Patterns.
- Foundational SQL skills (minimum requirement for database querying, schema understanding, and data manipulation).
- Good to Have:
- Familiarity with Python (for scripting, automation, or basic development).
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular) is a plus.
- Professional & Cloud Qualifications:
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) and building cloud-native applications.
- Proven experience mentoring junior developers and driving technical alignment within an agile team.
- Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently as a senior individual contributor.
- A keen interest in or experience with leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
- Deep understanding of microservice architecture and RESTful API development best practices.
- Experience working in Financial Services or another large, complex global environment is highly desirable.
- Consistently demonstrates clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
