Senior Java Developer
Summary
Senior Java developer building scalable backend services for a banking programme using Java 17+, Spring, Kafka, and distributed databases in an Agile team.
We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a long-term banking programme focused on developing and modernising enterprise backend systems. The role involves designing and building scalable backend services using Java 17+, Spring, and Kafka, working with distributed systems, relational and non-relational databases, and contributing to the continuous improvement of business-critical applications in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services using Java 17 or newer
- Develop applications using hexagonal architecture and clean design principles
- Build and maintain Spring based services, including Spring MVC and Spring Data
- Design event driven integrations using Apache Kafka
- Work with relational databases such as MS SQL and Oracle
- Work with non relational technologies such as Elasticsearch and Redis
- Analyse system functionality from performance, stability and security perspectives
- Produce clean, maintainable and well tested code
- Participate in technical design discussions and architecture decisions
- Support code reviews and engineering standards
- Plan and execute testing independently
- Cooperate with analysts, architects and other delivery teams
- Contribute to documentation and technical design materials
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of commercial Java development experience
- Strong experience with Java 17+
- Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, especially Spring MVC and Spring Data
- Experience with object oriented design patterns
- Experience designing and developing systems using hexagonal architecture
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as MS SQL or Oracle
- Experience with non relational technologies such as Elasticsearch or Redis
- Practical experience with Apache KafkaStrong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams
- English at minimum B2 level
Nice to have
- Experience with Azure
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience preparing High Level Design documentation
- Knowledge of JavaScript, React or Python
- Banking or financial services experience
- Experience with large scale enterprise systems
