Summary
Fully remote (Brazil-based) Senior Java engineer building and maintaining scalable cloud-native applications for a high-throughput card authorization and clearing platform. Core stack: Java, Kafka, Redis/Valkey caching, APIs, Docker/Kubernetes, AWS, and observability tooling such as Grafana/Splunk.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Java Software Development Engineer based in Brazil.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact transaction systems platform supporting critical card authorization and clearing processes. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native applications using Java, Kafka, APIs, caching, and modern infrastructure technologies. The position combines hands-on software engineering with reliability, performance, and operational excellence in high-throughput environments. Accountabilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable software solutions using Core Java, Kafka, caching technologies, APIs, and other modern engineering tools.
- Build and evolve cloud-native applications supporting high-throughput transaction processing, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, maintainability, and operational performance.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code that follows established engineering standards and contributes to a sustainable software architecture.
- Participate actively in code reviews, collaborating with other engineers to identify improvements, maintain coding standards, and ensure consistently high-quality implementations.
- Troubleshoot production and development issues efficiently, using application logs, metrics, traces, and other observability tools to identify root causes and restore reliable service.
- Work with containerized environments and orchestration technologies to support the deployment and operation of modern cloud-based applications.
- Contribute to event-driven architectures using Kafka and develop solutions involving distributed caching technologies such as Redis or Valkey.
- Continuously learn and adopt new technologies, adapting across different technology stacks and contributing to the evolution of engineering practices and solutions.
- Stay current with software engineering best practices, emerging technologies, and industry trends, bringing relevant improvements and ideas to the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, combined with strong professional experience in software development and production systems.
- Solid software engineering experience, including the development and support of cloud-based applications and infrastructure-as-code environments.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, software engineering principles, and structured problem-solving.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating caching solutions such as Redis or Valkey in cloud-based, high-throughput systems.
- Experience with Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes for application deployment and operational management.
- Practical experience with event-streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka and an understanding of event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS and familiarity with cloud-native application development and operational practices.
- Experience using logging, metrics, tracing, and observability tools such as Grafana or Splunk to monitor, diagnose, and troubleshoot live production systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within an agile, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Familiarity with API development and/or gRPC services is considered an advantage.
- Experience with automated deployment pipelines and modern CI/CD practices is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source projects or personal technology projects demonstrating curiosity and technical initiative are valued.
