The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior KDB+/q Developer to design, build and optimise real-time and historical market data platforms that power trading, analytics and risk across fixed income, cash equities and crypto markets.
You will work closely with traders, quants and technology teams, owning the full kdb+ stack from tick capture to analytics. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone who knows modern kdb+ deeply and can shape architecture as well as write fast, clean q.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain high-performance kdb+/q systems for real-time and historical market data capture, storage and analytics.
- Architect and extend tick infrastructure (tickerplant, RDB, HDB, gateways, chained tickerplants) for low-latency, high-volume data.
- Build and support platforms on the KX stack, including kdb Insights (Enterprise/SDK) and frameworks such as TorQ.
- Develop feed handlers and integrations for exchange, venue and broker data, including FIX protocol messages (orders, executions, market data).
- Support algorithmic and electronic trading with real-time analytics, signals, TCA, P&L and order/execution monitoring.
- Optimise queries, memory use, partitioning and storage layouts (attributes, splayed and partitioned tables, compression) for speed and scale.
- Model fixed income, cash market and crypto data, including order books, trades, quotes, curves and reference data.
- Expose kdb+ data to users and systems via APIs, gateways, Python (PyKX), Java, REST or other interfaces.
- Own production quality: monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Lead code reviews, set kdb+ engineering standards and mentor junior and mid-level developers.
- Work with traders, quants, risk and infrastructure teams to turn business requirements into robust solutions.
Essential skills and experience
- Extensive commercial experience (typically 7+ years) developing in kdb+ and q, with deep knowledge of modern kdb+ versions (4.x+) and current KX tooling.
- Hands-on experience with the kdb+ stack in production, specifically kdb Insights and/or TorQ.
- Strong understanding of kdb+ tick architecture: tickerplant, real-time and historical databases, gateways, load balancing and end-of-day processes.
- Direct experience in at least one of: fixed income (rates, credit, government bonds), cash markets (equities, FX cash) or crypto/digital assets.
- Working knowledge of the FIX protocol, including message types, sessions and order/execution workflows.
- Experience supporting algorithmic or electronic trading platforms, including real-time analytics and execution data.
- Proven ability to tune performance at scale: query optimisation, attributes, partitioning, memory management and IPC.
- Comfortable on Linux, with scripting skills (Bash and/or Python) and experience of version control and CI/CD.
- Clear communicator who can work directly with front-office users and explain technical trade-offs.
Desirable skills
- PyKX, embedPy or other Pythonkdb+ integration, plus Java, C/C++ or Rust for feed handlers.
- Cloud and container experience (AWS, Azure or GCP; Docker; Kubernetes), especially kdb Insights deployments.
- Experience with Kafka, Solace or other messaging and streaming technologies.
- Market microstructure knowledge: order books, liquidity, best execution and transaction cost analysis.
- Crypto exchange connectivity (REST/WebSocket APIs) and on-chain or digital-asset market data.
- Dashboards and visualisation (KX Dashboards, Grafana or similar).
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or a related quantitative field.
What's on offer
- Visa sponsorship available for suitably qualified candidates.
- Highly competitive salary and profit sharing scheme.
- Great opportunity to work with leading banks, hedge funds, trading firms and digital-asset businesses across the Globe.
- Work on mission-critical, low-latency platforms using the latest KX technology.
