Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer (m/f/d)
Summary
Senior engineer to scale and automate a large enterprise Kubernetes platform: building new clusters, developing Operators and custom controllers in Go with Kubebuilder, and driving GitOps automation with FluxCD and Crossplane. Fully remote within Europe, on German business hours, with an English-speaking team.
ImproveIT Solutions is looking for Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineers (m/f/d) to support the evolution and scaling of a large-scale Kubernetes platform environment.
The project focuses on scaling Kubernetes clusters, building and configuring new cluster environments, developing Kubernetes Operators, and driving platform automation using modern cloud-native technologies.
The current platform is based on Gardener, although prior Gardener experience is not mandatory.
Responsibilities
Scale, enhance, and optimize existing Kubernetes cluster environments
Design, build, and configure new Kubernetes clusters
Develop and maintain Kubernetes Operators and Custom Controllers using Go and Kubebuilder
Implement and improve platform automation capabilities
Automate infrastructure and platform lifecycle processes
Apply GitOps principles for deployment, configuration management, and operational consistency
Design and implement GitOps workflows using FluxCD
Work with Crossplane for infrastructure and platform automation
Perform testing, validation, and reliability improvements across the Kubernetes platform
Contribute to the continuous evolution of cloud-native platform engineering practices
Collaborate with an international, English-speaking engineering team
Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes in enterprise-scale environments
Experience operating and scaling large Kubernetes cluster landscapes
Strong proficiency in Go (Golang)
Hands-on experience with Kubebuilder
Proven experience developing Kubernetes Operators and Custom Controllers
Strong understanding of GitOps methodologies
Hands-on experience with FluxCD
Experience with Crossplane
Strong background in Platform Engineering and Platform Automation
Fluent English communication skills
Nice to Have
Experience with Gardener
Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP)
Public cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
Experience working with large-scale cloud-native platforms
Background in international Platform Engineering or SRE environments
