Senior / Lead Data Engineer — MSFT Data Platform (SAP & JD Edwards Integration)

Summary

Lead data engineering on Microsoft’s stack: build pipelines from SAP/JD Edwards into SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric, then model and optimise datasets for Power BI reporting.

Senior / Lead Data Engineer — MSFT Data Platform (SAP & JD Edwards Integration)

D2i is a specialist data and analytics consultancy helping enterprise organisations unlock value from their data. We're looking for a Senior / Lead Data Engineer with strong Microsoft data platform skills to join a high-performing delivery team on enterprise data transformation programs — modernising legacy reporting onto Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server and Power BI.

This is a senior, client-facing role. As well as hands-on engineering, you'll help lead technical design, set standards, and mentor other engineers on the team. You'll be Melbourne-based and able to start immediately or within a 3-week notice period.

The role

You'll lead the design, build and optimisation of scalable data pipelines and models across a Microsoft data platform — taking data from enterprise ERP systems (**SAP and JD Edwards**) and other operational sources, and turning it into analytics-ready datasets that power reporting and advanced analytics. Working alongside Power BI developers, analytics engineers and solution architects, you'll help modernise legacy reporting into a Microsoft Fabric and Power BI environment and deliver reliable, well-structured data the business can trust.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design and build of data pipelines, integration workflows and warehouse models on SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric
  • Integrate and transform data from SAP and JD Edwards, plus other enterprise source systems
  • Develop and optimise SQL Server warehouse models and stored procedures, including tuning slow-running queries
  • Build dimensional / medallion models and semantic layers that feed Power BI
  • Implement data quality, validation and transformation processes
  • Set data engineering standards and mentor other engineers on the team
  • Work directly with client stakeholders and architects to translate business requirements into technical solutions, and document what you build
  • Senior-level Microsoft data stack experience: SQL Server and strong SQL development
  • Dimensional and data warehouse modelling
  • Experience integrating ERP data sources (SAP and/or JD Edwards)
  • Building data models that support Power BI
  • Experience delivering in a consulting or client-facing environment

Highly desirable

  • Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory pipelines, OneLake, medallion architecture)
  • SAP ECC or S/4HANA data structures and extraction
  • JD Edwards (JDE) data structures and extraction
  • Power BI semantic models, RLS/OLS and DAX
  • Modern cloud data architecture and Git-based version control / ALM
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers on delivery teams

What we're looking for

  • Available immediately or within a 3-week notice period
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement — able to build trust with clients and explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences
  • Consulting experience is highly valued: comfortable in client-facing delivery, adaptable across engagements, and able to work autonomously as well as lead a team
  • A collaborative, delivery-focused mindset

Why D2i
