Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance Support
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support HQ-led Asia-Pacific compliance initiatives while strengthening day-to-day compliance management in Indonesia. The role will help translate Group policies into locally workable controls, identify and manage key regulatory risks, and provide structured reporting and escalation to HQ and relevant local stakeholders. Regional assignments will be undertaken in coordination with HQ and the responsible country teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A | HQ & Asia-Pacific Regional Compliance Support
HQ in mapping, monitoring and assessing significant legal and compliance developments across assigned Asia-Pacific markets and business activities.
2.Assist with regional risk assessments, gap analyses, policy localization, compliance guidance and cross-country workstreams under the direction of HQ.
3.Coordinate with country legal and compliance colleagues, business teams and external advisers to gather facts, validate local requirements and propose practical solutions.
4.Prepare clear risk reports, regulatory updates, mitigation proposals and escalation materials for HQ and relevant management teams.
B | Indonesia Compliance Management
1.Develop, maintain and improve Indonesia’s risk-based compliance framework, risk register, control plans, procedures and internal reporting mechanisms in line with Group standards and applicable local law.
2.Lead or coordinate local compliance assessments covering personal data protection and cross-border data transfers, anti-bribery, competition, export controls and sanctions, and other applicable priority areas.
with key departments to embed compliance checks and approval controls into actual business processes, including third-party engagement, procurement, sales, marketing and new projects.
4.Monitor regulatory changes and assess implications for BYD operations; support management and the business in implementing necessary policy or process changes.
5.Promote appropriate due diligence, record-keeping, training and awareness activities across functions to reinforce a practical compliance culture.
C | Monitoring, Incident Response & Improvement
1.Plan and coordinate compliance reviews, thematic checks and remediation tracking; verify that identified issues are resolved and documented.
the development and implementation of compliance incident reporting, escalation, internal investigation and response procedures, in coordination with HQ and relevant stakeholders.
3.Coordinate responses to material regulatory inquiries or compliance issues with local management, HQ and external counsel through approved channels.
4.Provide periodic management reporting on key risks, incidents, corrective actions and the overall effectiveness of local compliance controls.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor of Laws (S.H.) from a recognized university; a relevant postgraduate degree or compliance qualification is an advantage.
•8–10 years of relevant legal or compliance experience, including substantial experience in compliance risk assessment and program implementation.
•At least 3 years of experience leading compliance workstreams, coordinating cross-functional compliance programs or managing a compliance team.
•Sound knowledge of Indonesian regulatory and corporate compliance requirements, with practical understanding of data privacy, anti-bribery, competition and relevant cross-border controls.
•Experience in a multinational company, automotive or other large manufacturing business, reputable law firm or established consulting practice is preferred.
•Strong stakeholder management, independent judgment, analytical skills and ability to translate Group policies into practical local actions.
•Fluent working English (written and spoken) is required; professional Mandarin is an advantage, not a requirement.
