Senior Legal Counsel, Data Center
You will draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements supporting the development, construction, and operation of data centers in Singapore, Malaysia, and the wider Southeast Asia region. You'll lead and manage contract negotiations with vendors, contractors, landlords, customers, and service providers, balancing commercial objectives against legal, regulatory, and operational risk. You will provide practical, business-oriented legal support to project, construction, procurement, and operations teams on contractual and regulatory matters across the full data center lifecycle. You'll also develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and standard negotiating positions, conduct legal research, monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments, and coordinate with external counsel and service providers as needed.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including procurement and equipment supply agreements, EPC and construction contracts, land and facility leases, services agreements, colocation agreements, and interconnection arrangements
- Lead and manage contract negotiations with vendors, contractors, landlords, customers, and service providers
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal support to project, construction, procurement, and operations teams
- Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and standard negotiating positions
- Conduct legal research and monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments in Singapore and Malaysia
- Identify and help mitigate potential legal and compliance risks
- Coordinate with and manage external counsel and other service providers
Requirements
- Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) from an accredited law school
- 8+ years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally combining a leading law firm and an in-house corporate legal department
- Proven ability to independently draft, review, and lead negotiations on a broad range of complex commercial agreements
- Familiarity with Singapore and/or Malaysia legal and regulatory requirements; admission to the Singapore or Malaysia Bar, or another relevant common law jurisdiction, is preferred
- Hands-on experience with data center, infrastructure, construction/EPC, real estate and leasing, energy, procurement, or technology and outsourcing transactions is strongly preferred
- Strong commercial judgment, with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong spoken and written communication skills, stakeholder-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
