Senior Legal Counsel

We are looking for aSenior Legal Counselto provide legal services across Sunwater, partnering with the business on a range of matters relating to new and existing bulk water storage and supply infrastructure.This is a fixed-term opportunity for 24 months.

In this role, you will provide strategic, high-quality, solutions-focused legal advice across a broad range of areas, including native title, cultural heritage, property tenure, project delivery, procurement, ICT, mining, water supply and transportation arrangements, and commercial contracts and agreements.

As the Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Legal Services& Insurance, managing legal risk and building strong relationships across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Partner with the business to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice on complex matters
• Provide guidance on the legal implications of operational decisions, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting business objectives
• Identify, assess and manage legal risks to protect Sunwater's interests
• Lead the negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts and agreements
• Manage the engagement of external legal advisors
• Develop practical solutions to complex legal issues while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Promote legal awareness and best practice through training, guidance and updates

Our ideal candidate will be admitted as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland with an unrestricted practising certificate and demonstrated expertise in property, cultural heritage, native title, construction and procurement contracts (including AS and non-AS documentation), and complex commercial agreements.

You will possess strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, excellent communication and influencing capability, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments. In addition, you will have:

• At least 6 years post-admission experience in a relevant field within a top-tier or recognised mid-tier Australian law firm, or an ASX-listed or tier one in-house legal environment
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets
• Proven ability to work independently and proactively to identify and resolve complex issues
• High-level communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
