Summary

Sasaki is hiring a Senior Landscape Architect in Los Angeles to project-manage campus and institutional landscape projects — leading interdisciplinary teams from master planning and conceptual design through construction documentation and administration, with client relationship and business development duties. Requires licensure and 10+ years of experience.

Sasaki is seeking a curious, well-rounded, and self-motivated project manager to join our landscape architecture team in Los Angeles. If you are passionate about creating inspiring and lasting spaces, enjoy engaging with clients that value landscape architecture, and have experience with universities, colleges, and institutions, we encourage you to apply!

Our award-winning campus landscape practice sets the bar for built and unbuilt work in institutional settings and is recognized by the ASLA and SCUP for excellence in landscape architecture.

In this position, you will work alongside a talented team of professionals to design and deliver high-quality projects. Your responsibilities will span across a variety of project types, including built projects—ranging from schematic design through to construction administration—and unbuilt projects such as master plans, landscape master plans, and conceptual studies. Experience with project management and designing alongside interdisciplinary teams is highly desired. In your role, you will oversee and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and you’ll work closely with campus clients, developing strong relationships and a deep understanding of their unique needs and goals.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment. You will have the opportunity to bring your creative and technical skills to the table and contribute meaningfully to the development of impactful, lasting campus landscapes.

What you bring:

  • Design chops – you’ve got vision, creativity, and skills. You have a strong working knowledge of popular trends in public space, resilience, green infrastructure and have an interest in detail design, including material selection, construction techniques, and planting.
  • Collaborative spirit – the idea of interdisciplinary teamwork gets you excited
  • Passion – you have a healthy dose of ambition for yourself, your team, the work (and the firm you’ll come to love)
  • Proactive resourcefulness – you’re energetic and positive about solving problems and take initiative to find a way to ‘yes.’ You are self-motivated and can manage your time effectively while juggling multiple projects.
  • Growth-orientation – you’re curious and want to find greater ways to impact the world around you
  • Humanistic sensibility – you design for people and you generally enjoy working with others
  • Leadership – you’re comfortable guiding teams, mentoring staff, listening and incorporating the ideas of others, and representing Sasaki to clients and the greater design community

What you’ll do:

  • Manage internal project teams and external relationships with clients and subconsultants for a wide range of project types from master planning and conceptual design through construction documentation.
  • Oversee construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration.
  • Lead marketing and business development efforts. Bring experience in crafting proposals and interviewing for new work including building subconsultant teams, developing work plans, and writing detailed scope-of-work documents and contracts.
  • Develop and coordinate all facets of project design from conceptual design (sketches, illustrative graphics, 3D-Models, renderings) through construction documentation.

Experience and Education:

  • A Professional Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
  • Licensed Landscape Architect
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience leading teams through design phases from master planning to construction documentation and administration
  • Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Marketing and Business Development experience and acumen
