Are you an experienced university professional who combines strong service management, IT aptitude, user-support skills and mature judgement? The University Library is seeking a capable and dependable Senior Library Officer to join its Digital Initiatives and Research Cluster. The appointee will help coordinate the administrative operation and continuous development of the CollabTech Commons - including the Immersive Studio, One Button Studio, Tech Taster Zone, Prototyping Room, Tech Stations, and Collaborative Computer Lab - and work closely with users, Library colleagues, University units and external service providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of Phase 2 of the CollabTech Commons project in both technical and administrative aspects, collaborating with external suppliers, HKBU departments, and library colleagues, and providing administrative assistance such as tendering, procurement procedures, and document organization;
  • Manage facility administration, including bookings, equipment and software records, inventory, maintenance and incident logs, usage statistics, service reports and software licensing;
  • Provide operational input for budget planning, consumables planning, service enhancement, and continuous facility development;
  • Provide first-line troubleshooting and coordinate with external and internal parties for hardware and software issues, preventive maintenance, acceptance tests and warranty matters;
  • Supervise and train junior staff, student helpers or part-time assistants involved in counter service; also develop service rosters, task checklists, and escalation procedures to ensure consistent service quality; and
  • Manage digitization projects, including project planning, supervision of full-time and part-time staff, progress monitoring, and reporting.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Information Technology, Engineering, or Library/Information Science;
  • At least 6 years of work experience in a university environment, involving project management, staff supervision, service operations, user support, digitization projects, administration, and/or technology-enabled facilities;
  • Strong project management and coordination capability, with experience in supervising or supporting staff and helpers, maintaining workflows and procedures, following up tasks and ensuring consistent service quality;
  • Good technical aptitude and practical experience in system testing, implementation, maintenance or enhancement, first-line troubleshooting and liaison with IT colleagues, technical teams and vendors;
  • Strong user-support experience, including handling enquiries and problems, conducting training or orientations, and preparing user guides, FAQs, manuals or other service documentation;
  • Proven ability to work effectively and tactfully with different parties in a university environment, including faculty, students, administrative and technical units, vendors and external organisations;
  • Mature, responsible, patient and service-oriented, with sound judgement, good organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently under pressure; and
  • Willingness and ability to learn emerging technologies. Knowledge of immersive environments, CAVE/VR/AR, One Button Studio, AV systems, digital media workflows, or physical prototyping would be an advantage. Good written and oral English and Chinese are required; Putonghua would be an advantage.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review, mutual agreement, and availability of funding.
