Job purpose

Established in 1985 as the airfreight division of Emirates, Emirates SkyCargo is the largest international cargo airline in the world! We are looking for supply chain and logistics professionals ready to support Emirates SkyCargo as our organisation continuously increases its cargo capacity and develops specialised products to meet the growing needs of customers.

As a senior load master, you will support managing the load master activities to ensure that weight and balance activities, special cargo loading/unloading and necessary approvals and permits are in compliance with manuals, company operational manuals and international regulatory bodies. To efficiently produce technical solutions and to safely engage in the transport of heavy and out-sized cargo as well as other special cargo types. Manage and organise load master team to meet the operational shift activities for the ramp office.

In this role you will be:

  • Accepting special/heavy cargo at the cargo operations engineering desk from various sales departments by providing the relevant documents that meet our standard operating procedures.
  • Advising and providing instructions to outstations and/or clients with build-up of heavy cargo expertise.
  • Ensuring heavy and outsized cargo service delivery standards (packaging requirements, specific loading locations and aircraft requirements) are met and executed according to the manuals.
  • Leading and facilitating the ramp activities and administration for the load master office; assisting the administration team in scheduling and rostering of load masters to safeguard operations and to efficiently make use of the manpower available as per standards set by the department.
  • Coaching and training (on the job) new load masters and line checks to ensure compliance with company and regulatory licensing requirements keeping safety as the prime focus.
  • Planning ahead of the flight to ensure all ground handling arrangements are in place and ensure all information related to the ground handling agent, airport and load specification is obtained.
  • Ensuring that the load is built up in accordance with the Emirates standards meeting all safety requirements and carrying out the security search.
  • Confirming that all aircraft pre-flight security and preparation are carried as laid down in the flight operations manual.
  • Supervising the ground handling agent (GHA) to ensure that load optimization and loading efficiency is achieved taking into consideration requirements for all special cargo.
  • Preparing the loading instruction report and issuing to GHA in a timely manner so that the aircraft loading can commence.
  • Ensuring that the aircraft is unloaded in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensuring at all times, that the handling of time and temperature and pharmaceutical shipments demonstrates compliance to the European Union Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP) requirements and carrying out dangerous goods inspections related to aircraft loading and also dealing with any DG related incidents related to flight and handling while the aircraft is on ground.
  • Ensuring necessary permits and paperwork accompany special types of cargo such as AVI and dangerous goods that require special clearance to avoid problems at destinations and transit stations.
  • Responsible for preparing the aircraft weight and balance, trim sheet and submitting to the pilot in command.
  • Issuing aircraft loading and unloading instructions.
  • At destination, ensuring that general declaration, flight plan and weather reports are obtained from the ground handling agent and concerned authorities.
  • In the event of accompanying grooms, ensuring all grooms are listed and approved for the flight and that their identities are checked prior to boarding the aircraft.
  • Liaising with the grooms and crew for optimal loading positions for special loads.
  • Accountable for the punctuality of all flights and to ensure that an acceptable level of on-time departures is achieved.
  • Liaising with crew and crew hotel in the event of expected delay so as to ensure crew calls are delayed so as not to impact crew duty time limitation.
  • Maintaining close contacts with ground handling agents, line maintenance engineers, and local airport authorities to ensure that the highest levels of customer service are consistently delivered.
  • Assessing serviceability of aircraft loading systems and equipment and liaising with engineering for rectification as well as determining operational restrictions and limitations until systems are rectified.

Qualification

To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate with 5+ years of experience, or A-level qualification with 8+ years of experience.
  • Valid wide-body loadsheet license of freighter aircraft type.

Experience:

  • Logistics/Cargo 5+ years or flying load master for freighter 5+ years.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in cargo, airline, ground handling in all areas in a major international airport.
  • Should have completed load control 1 and 2, dangerous goods acceptance, aircraft loading and handling training and special cargo handling.
  • Good knowledge of local and international customs, immigration and security regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate high level of knowledge and competence in good distribution practice (GDP) acquired through experience and training.
  • Good knowledge of special/heavy cargo acceptance.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimum amount of supervision and strong communication skills in both written and spoken forms.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.
