Job purpose

Provide expert engineering technical support to ensure that electrical equipment, electrical distribution network, and SCADA system of plants are operated and maintained in line with best world-class practices and standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical input to update company specifications to incorporate the latest industry trends and company’s lessons learned.
  • Troubleshoot and analyse complex engineering problems and offer effective resolutions to ensure that maintenance services are provided safely and efficiently.
  • Represent the plant in the power grid for power coordination and studies.
  • Coordinate with ADNOC Refinery/GUP for any work and switching activities (specific to Ruwais).
  • Coordinate with TRANSCO, ADWEA, ADNOC-OS, Habshan-5 (SGP) for any work and switching activities.
  • Witness, as required, the factory and site acceptance tests, pre-commissioning and commissioning of equipment/systems and assure that installation/performance are in accordance with specifications and approved construction documents.
  • Maintain electrical equipment in line with HSECES guidelines and ensure compliance to MAT requirements.
  • Carry out periodical review and advise on updating material stock and direct revision of specifications in light of information from manufacturers, including deletion of obsolete items and incorporation of new items; ensure availability of spares and materials.
  • Closely monitor electrical contractor activities by conducting audits and weekly meetings to highlight their shortfalls/drawbacks and suggest improvements for effective implementation of scope in line with the service agreements.
  • Diagnose, analyse, and carry out root cause failure analysis; highlight reasons for equipment failure and advise on remedial measures to avoid failures. Study and carry out residual life assessment of critical electrical equipment and suggest corrective actions to be initiated by respective area engineers.
  • Monitor and analyse failure reports, identify bad actors (RCA), initiate corrective actions, and develop solutions to rectify problems and improve performance.
  • Compile and provide input for preparation of division/department capital, EOM, MM, operating, and 5-year business plan budgets, and monitor/control expenditures.
  • Ensure the availability and reliability of electrical system/equipment.
  • Ensure smooth integration of new facilities such as modification/upgradation of existing facilities and addition of new trains.
  • Conduct site engineering studies to determine the feasibility of introducing modifications to increase reliability and efficiency of the plant.
  • Initiate and review plant change requests as per company procedure to equipment, units, and plants, and incorporate modifications to increase reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop scope of work for major overhauls of electrical equipment, work service orders, and mini projects; coordinate implementation with other sections.
  • Provide support to technical and minor projects for developing scope, execution, and commissioning. Compile and provide input for preparation of division/department capital and operating budgets and monitor annual expenditure budgets.
  • Develop and optimise vendor, OEM, and specialist contractor support and arrange specialist services.
  • Carry out technical evaluation of bids related to service work orders and service agreements.
  • Evaluate and ensure that contractors' designs are in accordance with the scope of work and that facilities delivered to end-users are safe, reliable, operable, and maintainable.
  • Develop comprehensive monthly and annual management information system reports covering all major activities of the section, including expenditure profile, and prepare various other presentations/reports as required.
  • Follow the guidelines mentioned in Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) and Electrical Safety Procedures (ESP) to ensure safe handling of all fixed and portable electrical equipment for both employees and contractors working at the facility.
  • Coordinate with Projects, Engineering, and Integrity & OE divisions (TE, OE, PX) for any studies, site-related issues, or project scope development.
  • Plan, coordinate, and carry out predictive and reliability centered maintenance (RCM) programs for condition monitoring of electrical equipment to ensure improved machine availability and power system reliability.
  • Plan, coordinate, organize, and supervise the predictive and reliability centered maintenance (RCM) programs and preventive maintenance for HVAC equipment to ensure improved machine availability and system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is a must.
  • Minimum overall 15+ years of experience in execution of EPC contracts in the oil and gas industry, of which minimum 8 years in engineering and maintenance of electrical equipment within a large industrial organization.
  • Experience in gas processing/NGL and EPC/detail engineering projects. Knowledge of industry codes and standards applicable to the oil and gas industries (API, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, NEC/IEC, etc.) required.
  • Good knowledge about monitoring and predictive maintenance programs associated with electrical systems.
  • Knowledge about specification of transformers, switchgears, motor controls, protection control systems, SCADA system, and variable frequency drives.
  • Fair knowledge and experience on PLC integration with power management systems using latest technology communication protocols.
  • Expertise in resolving complex engineering and maintenance issues such as HV installations and protection, electrical automation and power control systems, electrical variable speed drives, UPS, etc.
  • Good knowledge about electrical safety requirements and HSE procedures and practices including planning and organizing, scheduling and coordinating, checking, examining, and recording.
  • Must have handled mega oil and gas FEED/EPC projects (more than 1 billion US dollars).
