Description of the role and purpose of the job\:

The role will provide you with an opportunity to lead and deliver a range of technical accounting engagements, supporting clients in navigating complex accounting matters, assessing the impact of new and amended IFRS, GRAP or other financial reporting framework related requirements, and developing practical, fit for purpose accounting solutions. In summary, you will be responsible for developing and implement practical solutions to a range of complex accounting, reporting, financial and regulatory challenges.

You will work closely with senior finance stakeholders to translate technical accounting requirements into clear recommendations, policies and processes that support high quality financial reporting and effective implementation.

In addition, the role will allow you to improve your business development skills as you will also be required to actively drive the identification of opportunities in the market and development of client-centric proposals within the CFO advisory/ Accounting Advisory space.

This position provides opportunity to assist clients with\:

Digital offerings for financial, regulatory, and non-financial reporting, development of innovative digital solutions and offerings across the financial management function

Key responsibilities\:

Accounting Advisory

  • Lead the delivery of technical accounting engagements, including assessing the impact of new and amended IFRS/GRAP accounting standards and supporting clients through implementation and adoption;

  • Advise clients on the interpretation and application of complex IFRS/GRAP requirements, including translating technical accounting conclusions into practical accounting policies, processes, reporting requirements and controls;

  • Lead IFRS/GRAP (and other relevant financial reporting framework) implementation projects, including IFRS 18, from initial impact assessment and gap analysis through to solution design, implementation planning and embedding the requirements within the finance function;

  • Support clients in assessing the implications of new accounting standards across financial reporting, chart of accounts, management reporting, systems, data, processes and controls, and develop practical recommendations to address identified gaps;

  • Develop high-quality technical accounting deliverables, including accounting papers, technical memos, accounting policies, implementation roadmaps and supporting client guidance;

  • Actively identify business development opportunities and lead the development of proposals and solutions addressing clients’ technical accounting and IFRS/GRAP implementation requirements;

  • Support Partners and Associate Directors in growing the Accounting Advisory practice through client engagement, thought leadership, market initiatives and development of innovative IFRS/GRAP solutions;

  • Develop and coach junior team members, providing technical guidance and actively supporting the transfer of IFRS/GRAP and technical accounting knowledge;

  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, professional standards and KPMG’s internal risk management requirements in the execution of all engagements;

  • Lead discussions with clients on emerging accounting developments and the future of financial reporting, including the practical implications of new and evolving IFRS/GRAP Accounting Standards;

  • Perform other technical accounting and advisory activities as required.

Capital Markets Advisory

  • IPO support – Financial reporting assistance for offer documents including KPI’s and non GAAP measures;

  • Project management support through the listing process;

  • Investor relations management; and

  • Assistance in post-listing compliance in financial reporting

  • The ability to adapt to a changing work environment and accommodate changing client demands.

Minimum requirements to apply for the role\:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience working on technical accounting matters/projects or within a technical accounting capacity within a finance environment;

  • Financial qualification CA(SA); and

  • Passionate about working on technical accounting related projects / initiatives, finance projects and providing practical solutions to finance functions and their leadership.
