Senior Manager: Group Data & BI Automation - Expatriate Opportunity
A Leading Regional Bank | Location: Port Moresby

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established bank with an enterprise-wide data footprint, is seeking a Senior Manager to take ownership of its Cloud Data Platform and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). This is a business-ownership role rather than a technical infrastructure role where you will need to roll up your sleeves to mentor, develop, and build capability in an immature local market, with succession planning a core part of the mandate. You will set the governance, controls, SLAs/OLAs, and budget discipline around these environments, and be the person who translates data capability into business value across the whole organisation.

This is a rare mandate to shape — not just run — a bank's enterprise data future. You'll take a platform from proof-of-value to genuine maturity, with real executive backing, a real budget, and a real team, and you'll do it with a client that values quality and capability-building over box-ticking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Governance & business ownership: Own the Cloud Data Platform and EDW as business owner — governance, budget, utilisation, and SLAs/OLAs, not the technical upkeep of the environments.
  • EDW maturity: Move the EDW from proof-of-value to a mature, governed state, with access management and timely, accurate, confidential data delivery.
  • Enablement & real-time reporting: Enable self-serve and self-hosting reporting for business users, and shift delivery from batch towards real-time.
  • Advanced analytics enablement: Put in place secure connectivity for ML, Python, and advanced analytics tooling across the current cloud stack (Snowflake, DBT, Azure, Power BI).
  • Capability building & succession: Actively grow, mentor, and develop a team of 20–40 specialists from the ground up — hands-on coaching and knowledge-sharing to build a strong succession pipeline in an immature local market.
What You'll Bring
  • 15+ years of experience in data management, business intelligence, or analysis-based environments, including 2+ years hands-on managing Data Governance programs — framework, policy, standardisation, modelling, inventorying, metadata, and data quality.
  • Hands-on experience in EDW technologies and data modelling (e.g. MSSQL), integration tooling such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and Kafka for real-time reporting.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud technologies and data modelling — Azure, Snowflake, Power BI, and DBT.
  • Working knowledge of data warehouse governance: encryption, data-in-transit protection, access management, and role-based access, applied enterprise-wide.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data analysis, sufficient to lead governance processes and documentation, with strong BI tooling capability.
  • Project management and agile experience delivering enterprise data programs.
  • Strong collaboration skills across teams and levels of the organisation, with cross-functional delivery experience and a track record presenting at senior management forums and committees.
  • 10+ years of banking/financial institution experience, or 5–7+ years of meaningful banking exposure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and present with impact at executive level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Data Science, or related field from an internationally recognised institution.
  • Resilience, patience, and genuine mentoring ability — this role builds capability in a developing local team as much as it manages a platform.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or Data Science; certifications such as CDMP, DGSP, or relevant cloud certifications. Desirable.
  • Oracle exposure (OCI / Autonomous Data Warehouse). Preferred.
  • Python / Jupyter Notebook experience for real-time and advanced analytics work, and familiarity with data governance tools (e.g. Collibra or similar) and data architecture. Preferred
Why Join

If you want to leave a lasting mark on how a bank uses its data, and want to build a team and a legacy alongside it — genuinely developing people, not just managing a platform — this is that role.
