Position Summary:
OceanX is seeking a Senior Manager, Information Technology to lead and support its global technology function. Reporting to the COO and CFO, this role will oversee enterprise technology strategy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, business systems, and user support across OceanX’s offices, vessel operations, education programs, media production, and other global initiatives.
This is a hands-on leadership role that balances strategic oversight with direct execution of technology initiatives and day-to-day operational needs. The Senior Manager will lead a small, geographically distributed team, manage external technology partners, and help drive the separation of OceanX’s IT and risk infrastructure from its parent organization. The ideal candidate will combine broad technical expertise, strong business judgment, and a service-oriented approach to build a secure, scalable, and effective global technology environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute an enterprise technology strategy aligned with OceanX’s organizational priorities and growth plans.
- Lead IT planning, governance, budgeting, vendor strategy, technology roadmaps, and investment decisions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, ensuring that technology effectively supports OceanX’s scientific research, education, media production, vessel operations, and global programs.
- Lead the separation and transition of OceanX’s IT and technology risk infrastructure and related workstreams from its parent organization.
- Develop and maintain practical IT policies, standards, governance frameworks, and operating procedures.
- Oversee networks, cloud platforms, collaboration tools, identity and access management, end-user computing, AI-related infrastructure, and other core technology services.
- Provide hands-on support across technology implementations, troubleshooting, and day-to-day operational needs.
- Ensure technology services are reliable, scalable, secure, and responsive across OceanX’s global operations.
- Own and manage OceanX’s cybersecurity and technology risk program, with support from specialist resources as needed.
- Oversee endpoint protection, identity and access management, vulnerability management, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable privacy, information security, and contractual requirements.
- Lead periodic risk assessments, security testing, technology audits, and remediation efforts.
- Oversee OceanX’s portfolio of enterprise applications, SaaS platforms, AI tools, and emerging technologies.
- Lead system integrations, technology modernization, and digital transformation initiatives that simplify work and improve the employee experience.
- Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness through technology, automation, data, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
- Lead a customer-focused IT support function that provides responsive, high-quality service to staff worldwide.
- Establish service standards, operating metrics, and clear support and escalation processes.
- Develop and oversee employee technology training and cybersecurity awareness programs, leveraging specialist support when appropriate.
- Manage relationships with managed service providers, telecommunications partners, consultants, and technology vendors.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small, geographically distributed IT team.
- Build a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.
- Manage departmental budgets, technology contracts, resource plans, and vendor performance.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings or late evenings, to support cross-time zone collaboration.
- Adaptable to varying workloads, balancing periods of focused execution with lighter operational phases.

Qualifications:
- Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is desirable.
- At least twelve (12) years of progressive information technology experience, including leadership responsibility for enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, business systems, and service delivery.
- Experience leading small, geographically distributed technology teams and influencing outcomes across a complex organization.
- Strong knowledge of cloud environments, networking, cybersecurity, identity and access management, enterprise applications, AI tools, and productivity platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technology strategy and leadership with hands-on implementation, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Experience managing outsourced service providers, consultants, vendors, and strategic technology partners.
- Demonstrated success leading technology modernization, systems integration, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience developing and managing cybersecurity, technology risk, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity programs.
- Strong financial and operational management experience, including responsibility for budgets, contracts, roadmaps, and resource planning.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to nontechnical audiences and senior leaders.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, respond effectively to evolving needs, and maintain high standards in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading large-scale technology integrations, separations, deployments, or organizational disentanglements is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting global or geographically distributed operations is preferred.
- Experience within science, conservation, education, media, philanthropy, a nonprofit, or another mission-driven environment is preferred.

Compensation:
Compensation for the role includes a competitive salary in the range from $195,000 - $230,000 (inclusive of a merit-based bonus, dependent on years of experience, level of education obtained, as well as applicable skillset) and an excellent benefits package, including paid time off ranging from 15 to 25 days based on years of service, paid sick and safe leave, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid parental time off, birth mother recovery pay, sick family member pay, parental ramp back up program, gym reimbursement and generous employer match for 401k.
