Primary Purpose:

Overseeing the planning, execution, completion, and quality of CHEST's industry facing and organization wide enterprise projects, the Senior Manager, PMO will help the team achieve CHEST's organizational goals. This role directly manages assigned PMO staff, ensuring effective performance, development, and workload alignment across priority initiatives, while carrying a working portfolio of the organization's most complex and highest visibility projects. Within the framework of CHEST expanding the services it offers to its constituents, the Senior Manager, PMO is accountable for project intake and prioritization along with establishing and improving the workflows, methodologies, and procedures that enable consistent project delivery, including ownership of CHEST's enterprise project management platform. Many CHEST projects carry commitments to industry funders, federal grant programs, and accredited education requirements, and this role ensures those obligations are met on schedule and reported accurately to leadership.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate a passion for crushing lung disease and embody CHEST values: honor the team, lead with integrity, leverage passion, cultivate innovation, and have serious fun.
  2. Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating the work of others, such as serving as a team lead, supervising staff or interns, or owning the development of peers
  3. Define the scope and requirements of the project in collaboration with key stakeholders
  4. Create a detailed work plan, which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project
  5. Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates resources to activities
  6. Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion
  7. Execute the project according to the project plan
  8. Set up files and communication plan to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured
  9. Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
  10. Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards
  11. Work cross functionally across different departments to ensure quality control and understanding of project deliverables
  12. Establish and maintain PMO standards, templates, and delivery practices to support consistent execution and clear project governance
  13. Provide project and portfolio visibility through accurate project health updates, timelines, key risks, and escalation as appropriate
  14. Directly manage assigned PMO staff, including onboarding, goal setting, coaching, and performance feedback
  15. Plan and balance team capacity, assign work, and ensure accountability for outcomes across direct reports and project teams
  16. Support direct report development through training, stretch opportunities, and ongoing feedback aligned with PMO standards

Other Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as primary project contact for internal stakeholders along with external partners, funders, and vendors as assigned
  2. Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  3. Communicate project needs with third parties/vendors
  4. Delegate project tasks based on team members’ individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels
  5. Use and continually develop leadership skills
  6. Other duties as needed and assigned
