Role Overview

The Senior Service Engineering Manager is a strategic leadership position within Mitsubishi Power's Service organization responsible for the overall direction, performance, and development of multiple Service Engineering teams supporting LTSA and Service Operations activities. The position provides leadership through subordinate managers and technical leaders responsible for engineering support of Mitsubishi J, G, and F Frame Gas Turbines, W501F units, Steam Turbines, Generators, and associated auxiliary systems, as well as selected non-Mitsubishi OEM equipment as required by the business.

The Senior Service Engineering Manager is accountable for establishing organizational priorities, ensuring fleet reliability improvements, managing technical risk, developing engineering talent pipelines, and aligning engineering resources with business objectives. The role serves as a key liaison between Service Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Development, Fleet Reliability, and Global Engineering organizations.

This position is intended to be a strategic working leader who balances organizational leadership, technical governance, fleet risk management, customer support, and business strategy while developing future engineering leaders within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead multiple Service Engineering organizations through subordinate Engineering Managers, Team Leaders, and Technical Specialists.
  • Establish engineering strategy, objectives, and priorities that align with Service Operations, LTSA, Fleet Reliability, and business growth objectives.
  • Ensure engineering support capability is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year through effective organization design, staffing, and succession planning.
  • Develop and mentor Service Engineering Managers, technical leaders, and high-potential employees to strengthen organizational capability and leadership succession.
  • Conduct regular talent reviews, workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational health assessments.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, technical excellence, customer focus, and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP).

Technical Governance

  • Provide technical oversight and engineering governance for service engineering evaluations, NCR dispositions, ESR support, reliability investigations, and fleet technical issues.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for engineering decision-making and risk acceptance within delegated authority limits.
  • Ensure engineering evaluations appropriately balance technical integrity, safety, customer commitments, reliability, schedule, and financial impacts.
  • Review and approve significant technical recommendations involving fleet-wide impacts, major customer issues, safety concerns, or substantial business risks.
  • Champion the application of engineering standards, procedures, lessons learned, and best practices across all engineering teams.

Fleet Reliability and Risk Management

  • Establish fleet reliability improvement strategies and prioritize engineering initiatives that improve reliability, availability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost.
  • Oversee fleet risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and communication processes.
  • Direct the development and maintenance of fleet risk databases used for outage planning, parts planning, and financial forecasting.
  • Lead executive reviews of significant fleet concerns and major technical issues affecting customer operations.
  • Ensure lessons learned from field experience, investigations, NCRs, ESRs, and Root Cause Analyses are incorporated into future designs and service practices.

Business and Operational Alignment

  • Partner with LTSA, Service Operations, Parts Planning, Configuration Engineering, Fleet Management, and Field Service leadership to establish engineering priorities and resource allocation.
  • Ensure engineering resources are effectively aligned with outage schedules, fleet needs, strategic projects, and customer commitments.
  • Support business growth initiatives through engineering capability development, productivity improvements, and process optimization.
  • Develop long-range staffing models balancing internal capability development, contractor support, and specialized technical expertise.
  • Monitor key organizational performance indicators including safety, quality, first-time quality, delivery performance, certification compliance, customer responsiveness, and engineering productivity.

Global Engineering Coordination

  • Lead engagement with Mitsubishi Power global engineering organizations, including Takasago, Hitachi City, Nagasaki, Yokohama, Savannah Machinery Works, and other engineering centers.
  • Facilitate executive-level discussions regarding fleet reliability concerns, technical strategy, product improvements, and design enhancements.
  • Ensure critical fleet issues are rapidly escalated and appropriately addressed through global engineering collaboration.
  • Champion implementation of design improvements and reliability upgrades across the operating fleet.

Customer and Industry Leadership

  • Provide executive technical leadership for major customer issues, fleet events, and strategic customer interactions.
  • Review and approve significant customer technical communications including incident reports, fleet advisories, technical bulletins, and reliability updates.
  • Represent Mitsubishi Power at customer meetings, executive reviews, industry conferences, insurance reviews, lender technical meetings, and user group events.
  • Build relationships with key customers, external stakeholders, and industry organizations to strengthen Mitsubishi Power's reputation as a technical leader.

Organization Development

  • Establish and maintain training, tasking, qualification, certification, and professional development programs across all engineering teams.
  • Ensure technical knowledge transfer, workforce readiness, and capability growth are sustained across the organization.
  • Promote innovation, digital tools, analytics, and knowledge management systems that improve engineering effectiveness.
  • Identify future capability gaps and establish development plans to support long-term business objectives.
  • Support corporate strategic initiatives and transformation programs.
  • Participate in annual business planning and budgeting activities.
  • Support merger, acquisition, partnership, or new service offering evaluations when technical input is required.
  • Lead benchmarking and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering organizations.
  • Support ISO 9001, quality management system audits, and compliance efforts.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required (approximately 20-30%).

Requirement

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience supporting gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, or related rotating equipment.
  • 7+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering managers and large technical organizations.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams supporting field operations and customer service activities.
