Key responsibilities

Underground Mining Processes & Customer Collaboration

• Demonstrate working knowledge of large-scale hard-rock mining methods, including VCR, sublevel caving, cut-and-fill, room-and-pillar and narrow-vein mining.

• Review mine plans and development and stoping operations to identify opportunities to improve safety, sustainability and operational efficiency through the application of Normet processes and solutions.

• Work closely with mine operations and geotechnical teams at underground sites to ensure that proposed solutions are suitable for prevailing mining conditions.

• Collaborate with mine planning and commercial teams to understand mine business plans, operational priorities and performance requirements.

Sprayed Concrete / Shotcrete Operations

• Demonstrate knowledge of sprayed concrete/shotcrete design and production for underground mine development and infrastructure.

• Maintain familiarity with applicable European, American and Indian concrete and shotcrete standards, as well as ground-support technologies and the role of shotcrete under relevant DGMS guidelines for Indian hard-rock underground mines.

• Develop and execute weekly, monthly and quarterly plans to achieve targets for concrete production, transportation, streamlined operations and underground spraying.

• Ensure adherence to established SOPs for transporting fresh concrete in agitators to designated underground faces, deploying Spraymec equipment and applying shotcrete to the required substrate.

• Minimise material wastage and maximise productivity across underground shotcrete operations.

• Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant fresh and hardened concrete performance parameters, including early strength, flowability, workability, bond strength, pull-out test results, compressive and tensile strength, and creep.

Operational Control, Data & Performance Reporting

• Ensure systematic recording of data relating to concrete production and transportation, Spraymec equipment operations and spraying-cycle times, using prescribed formats and any additional required records.

• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports; maintain MIS and interpret operational data to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.

• Monitor performance against stipulated KPIs and take appropriate action to support achievement of agreed targets.

• Manage underground crews with a focus on safe working practices, effective deployment and sustained productivity.

• Work in close coordination with the Services team to improve equipment utilisation and overall operational productivity.

• Ensure that underground operations are conducted safely at all times.

Explosives Charging, Rock Mechanics & Project Management

• Possess sound foundational knowledge of rock mechanics, blast design, and underground charging and blasting operations.

• Understand charging practices used in mine-development excavation, including burn-cut and wedge-cut methods, and fan-pattern long-hole charging in production operations.

• Maintain knowledge of underground bulk-explosives technologies, recent technological developments and automation.

• Demonstrate project-management capability across end-to-end underground sprayed concrete, explosives charging and scaling operations.

Required Competencies

• Comprehensive knowledge of underground hard-rock mining processes and operating practices.

• Sound knowledge of at least two of the following operations: concrete spraying, explosives charging, ground support (bolting) and scaling.

• Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and the mining cycle in hard-rock mines.
