Senior Manufacturing Data Architect, OT/IT Integration

Posted
Discussion

Summary

Senior data architect at consultancy Lumenalta, embedded in an enterprise data architecture and AI strategy engagement for a global manufacturing client. Leads plant/OT assessments (PLC, SCADA, MES, historians), designs Azure lakehouse ingestion and SAP extraction strategy. Fully remote across the Americas with US business-hours overlap.

#### About Lumenalta

At Lumenalta, we partner with forward-thinking organizations to build technology solutions that scale, delight users, and accelerate business growth. Our global teams bring curiosity, commitment, and technical excellence to every project. We value transparency, autonomy, and impact, empowering every team member to do their best work.

#### About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Data Architect to join a small team of senior architects on an enterprise data architecture and AI strategy engagement for a global manufacturing company with dozens of plants. You will lead the assessment of plant and OT data, design a manufacturing data architecture that makes better use of the machine connectivity already in place without re-architecting each plant, and define how ERP data moves into a governed enterprise platform. You will work alongside the client's IT, data, plant, and OT teams, who own the priorities and the decisions. This is a role for an architect who is equally comfortable on the plant floor and in front of executives, and who can deliver clear recommendations on a compressed timeline.

#### What You'll Be Doing

  • **Plant and OT deep dives.** Lead assessments at sites with different levels of maturity, evaluating machine connectivity, data quality, latency, and gaps.
  • **OT inventories and maturity scoring.** Build inventories of OT systems, data flows, and integrations across PLCs, SCADA, historians, and MES, and score their maturity against enterprise needs.
  • **Manufacturing data architecture.** Design the plant ingestion approach, edge and streaming patterns, and how plant data lands in a governed lakehouse on Azure.
  • **SAP data extraction strategy.** Assess modern SAP data extraction options to replace SAP SLT ahead of its retirement, and document the decision points so the recommendation holds across licensing and roadmap scenarios.
  • **Integration standards.** Define API and event-driven integration standards for plant, ERP, and enterprise systems.
  • **Hands-on validation.** Validate the ingestion approach with real plant data in a hands-on demo that lands plant and SAP master data in a governed layer and feeds a self-service report.
  • **Platform and governance collaboration.** Work with the Enterprise Data Architect on the Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks evaluation for manufacturing and streaming workloads, and with the Governance Architect on plant and master data.
  • **Roadmap and business case.** Contribute manufacturing initiatives, costs, and value milestones to the transformation roadmap and business case, and present findings to plant, IT, and executive stakeholders.

#### What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years in data architecture, industrial data integration, or manufacturing IT, including at least 3 years leading OT/IT integration designs across multiple plants.
  • Hands-on depth in industrial connectivity: OPC UA, MQTT (including Sparkplug B), Modbus, and PLC, SCADA, and DCS environments.
  • Experience with historians and MES platforms such as AVEVA PI, Ignition, Siemens Opcenter, or Rockwell FactoryTalk, and with the ISA-95 model, plus familiarity with Unified Namespace patterns.
  • Experience with Azure streaming and edge services for plant data, such as Azure IoT Hub or IoT Operations, Event Hubs, and Kafka.
  • SAP data extraction experience with SAP SLT, SAP Datasphere or Business Data Cloud, ODP and CDS views, OData, or third-party replication tools such as Qlik Replicate, and an understanding of SAP ECC and S/4HANA data structures.
  • Working knowledge of OT security, including network segmentation, the Purdue model, and IEC 62443.
  • Judgment to design an approach that works across uneven plant maturity, and to be clear about how far findings from a few plants can be generalized.
  • Ability to build trust with plant engineers and operators, and to explain OT constraints to IT and executive audiences in plain language.
  • Strong consulting skills, including workshop facilitation, clear technical writing, and delivering on a compressed timeline with incomplete information.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to plant sites when on-site work adds value.
  • Advanced English and the ability to communicate clearly in a distributed, remote team.
  • Based in the Americas, with full overlap with US business hours.

#### Nice to Have

  • Master data management experience for material and product data, such as Stibo STEP.
  • Experience preparing plant data for AI use cases such as predictive maintenance or quality analytics.
  • Familiarity with how time-series and event data lands in a lakehouse on Azure Databricks or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Certifications such as Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional, Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate, or ISA/IEC 62443.

#### Why Lumenalta is an amazing place to work at

At Lumenalta, you can expect that you will:

  • Be 100% dedicated to one project at a time so that you can innovate and grow.
  • Be a part of a team of talented and friendly senior-level developers.
  • Work on projects that allow you to use leading tech.

#### Location

This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the Americas (North, Central, and South America); candidates must be able to work with full overlap with U.S. business hours to ensure effective collaboration with client and team schedules. Occasional travel to client plant sites may be required.

#### Application Deadline

Applications will be accepted until **November 19, 2026**. Candidates can expect feedback by **November 23, 2026**.
