Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Tyne and Wear

Our client, an engineering organisation in Tyne & Wear, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end mechanical design of electromechanical products - from clean-sheet concept through prototype build/test and release into production.

What you'll be doing

Owning mechanical design for rotating equipment / drivetrain-style assemblies
Leading concept development, prototyping, validation and test support
Delivering engineering analysis (hand calcs + CAE) with a focus on reliability/durability
Producing 3D CAD and 2D drawings, supporting release to manufacture
Applying DFM/DFA and DFMEA/PFMEA
Working closely with manufacturing/test teams, plus supplier management
Mentoring junior engineers

What we're looking for

Strong 3D CAD + 2D drawing capability (any major CAD package)
Experience with engineering analysis / CAE
Practical background in DFM and supporting builds/testing
Some supplier management exposure
Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent experience)

Nice to have

Inventor / SolidWorks, MASTA / KISSsoft
High-volume manufacturing and/or casting design
Gears/transmissions/bearings knowledge and related calculations
