Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead engineering assessments and infrastructure improvement projects across commercial and industrial facilities. This role focuses on identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, utility performance, operational reliability, and cost effectiveness through practical, technically sound solutions. You will oversee site surveys, feasibility studies, engineering design, project scoping, and investment-grade cost estimates, helping clients make informed capital investment decisions. Working closely with clients, internal teams, and external engineering partners, you will guide projects from initial assessment through implementation support. The position combines technical expertise, financial analysis, and project coordination in a collaborative, client-facing environment. It offers the opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure modernization initiatives while delivering measurable operational and financial value.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct site surveys and collect technical, operational, utility, and cost data to establish project baselines and identify client needs.

  • Assess facility infrastructure, utility systems, and operating conditions to identify opportunities for energy, water, and operational improvements.

  • Perform feasibility studies and technical evaluations for utility modernization, energy efficiency, and related infrastructure projects.

  • Develop project scopes, engineering assumptions, savings calculations, and investment-grade cost estimates to support capital investment decisions.

  • Prepare technical recommendations, project economics, and supporting documentation for client proposals and project approvals.

  • Lead design engineering activities for approved projects, ensuring technical quality, accuracy, and alignment with project objectives.

  • Coordinate internal and external engineering resources to deliver design work on schedule and within the agreed scope.

  • Provide engineering support throughout project implementation, including design-build coordination, technical reviews, and the integration of relevant incentives or funding opportunities.

  • Complete at least 95% of assigned site surveys, feasibility studies, and investment-grade cost estimates by committed deadlines, with fewer than 5% requiring material rework due to engineering errors or omissions.

  • Develop technical scopes, project economics, and engineering recommendations that contribute to at least $5 million annually in qualified project opportunities approved for proposal or implementation.

  • Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication, constructive collaboration, reliable follow-through, and consistent delivery against commitments.

  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.

    • 5–10 years of experience in the development, design, or delivery of utility system modernization, energy efficiency, or related infrastructure projects.

    • Experience supporting industrial and/or commercial projects.

    • Technical expertise in utility systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, or related infrastructure.

    • Ability to independently manage engineering assignments, prioritize deliverables, and coordinate effectively with clients, internal teams, and external partners.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate facility conditions and develop practical, technically sound improvement recommendations.

    • Experience preparing feasibility studies, engineering scopes, cost estimates, savings calculations, or related technical project documentation.

    • Strong financial and economic analysis capabilities, including lifecycle cost analysis, return on investment (ROI) evaluation, and business case development for capital infrastructure improvements.

    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a professional, proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and project delivery.

    • Ability to work across office, remote, and client-site environments, including industrial facilities, mechanical rooms, rooftops, construction sites, and other operational settings.

    • Willingness to undertake regular local and regional travel to client sites, with occasional overnight travel as required.

    • Ability to navigate client facilities and perform site assessments, including walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, and accessing equipment areas. Use of personal protective equipment, high-visibility clothing, and safety footwear may be required.

    • Flexibility to accommodate client schedules, site access restrictions, project deadlines, commissioning activities, and fieldwork outside standard business hours when necessary.

    • Preferred qualifications:

      • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

      • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential.

      • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential or a similar professional certification.

      • Benefits

        • Annual salary: $130,000–$150,000, depending on experience, skills, education, and certifications.

        • Health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

        • Healthcare savings options: Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA).

        • Retirement benefits: 401(k) plan with employer matching.

        • Paid time off: Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.

        • Family support: Paid parental leave.

        • Disability coverage: Paid short-term and long-term disability benefits.

        • Professional development: Tuition reimbursement and opportunities to develop technical and project leadership skills.

        • Work flexibility: Flexible hybrid work schedule for office-based employees, with remote and client-site work depending on project needs.

        • Meaningful impact: Opportunities to contribute to energy efficiency, facility modernization, sustainability, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

        • Career growth: The opportunity to expand technical expertise and advance professionally while working on varied commercial and industrial projects.
