Senior Metallurgical Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical preparation and evaluation of specimens (including welds, brazing, coatings) and issue reports to customers within committed lead times.
- Ensure tests conducted adhere to international standard specifications, customer requirements, technical, quality, and safe work procedures.
- Serve as the resident expert for weld assessment, maintaining a high level of expertise in metallurgical and weld assessment testing.
- Communicate with customers to clarify testing requirements, incoming specimens, expected completion dates, test results, and ensure high level of customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate on multi‑department jobs with Chemistry, Mechanical Testing and Failure Analysis teams as required.
- Work with Quality Manager on internal & external quality related activities including certification body & customer audits, proficiency & round robin testing, identify root causes for non-conformances and implement corrective & preventive actions.
- Train and mentor junior engineers to build capability in metallurgical evaluations, including weld assessments.
- Identify and recommend workflow improvements, equipment upgrades, and efficiency measures to enhance turnaround times.
- Provide expertise to Sales and Quality teams on customer enquiries, feasibility studies, and new specification implementation.
Requirements
- Degree in Materials Science or Materials Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in metallurgical evaluation, including weld/braze evaluations.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Detail‑oriented, with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
