Position Summary:
The Senior Metallurgist will conduct tests related to the structure and properties (physical, mechanical, and chemical) of materials to address the needs of a wide variety of clients. He/she will use various techniques and methodologies including optical and electron microscopes. The Senior Metallurgist will also conduct failure analysis of metallic and nonmetallic materials to identify the failure mechanism, contributing factors, cause of failure, and preventative actions.
Responsibilities:

Perform tests and failure analysis with full data gathering, interpretation, and report writing

Work on projects with high complexity and independently design test protocols for failure analyses and materials problem solving

Develop test procedures to determine interaction between different materials and different environments

Consistently identify failure mechanism, contributing factors, causes, and preventative actions

Provide oversight and training to other team members, contributing to the growth of technical expertise and capability in the laboratory

Manage projects for complex and non-routine metallurgy, interdepartmental, and failure analysis jobs

Review of metallurgy and failure analysis reports

Consult with customers to identify testing needs, answer technical questions, and provide status updates; assist in quoting projects as needed

Consult with engineers in other divisions of the company including forensics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and dimensional inspection

Assist with safety and quality audits
