About the project
Our client, a US-based digital health company, is building a closed-loop wellness platform. The mobile app is the daily engagement surface for members — a health-score view, a prioritized daily plan, exercise and habit tracking, sleep and lab data, and messaging with an advisor. It's a single React Native codebase serving both iOS and Android, with native integrations for HealthKit and wearable devices, handling Protected Health Information (PHI) end to end.
We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to own and build the member app across both platforms, working closely with backend, design, and the tech lead in a distributed team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of mobile development experience, with strong hands-on React Native (and TypeScript)
- Proven experience shipping and maintaining production apps on both iOS and Android
- Solid understanding of native modules and platform APIs, including integrating device/health data (HealthKit, Google Fit, wearables)
- Experience with the mobile release lifecycle — App Store and Google Play submissions, builds, and OTA updates (e.g. Expo/EAS)
- Strong grasp of mobile performance, offline handling, state management, and push-notification pipelines
- Experience writing automated tests and maintaining testable, maintainable code
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a remote or distributed team
Nice to have
- Experience with Expo and the Expo ecosystem
- Native iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin) experience
- Experience building apps that handle PHI / operate under HIPAA or similar compliance constraints
- Familiarity with wearable/health-data integrations (Oura, Whoop, Apple Health, Garmin, Fitbit)
- Experience working with a TypeScript monorepo (Turborepo) and shared packages
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the member mobile app on iOS and Android from a single React Native codebase
- Integrate HealthKit, wearables, and other device/health data sources into the app
- Implement the daily engagement surfaces — score view, today plan, tracking, messaging — with a focus on performance and reliability
- Collaborate with backend engineers on API design, data flows, and offline/sync behavior
- Handle PHI responsibly in the mobile layer, following the project's compliance requirements
- Cover work with automated tests and own the app release process across both stores
- Take ownership of your part of the work and communicate clearly within a distributed team
