The Senior Network Engineer will be working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while developing, implementing, and supporting a complex backbone. To be successful in this role, the candidate being sought after is required to possess extensive experience in engineering and operations of very large-scale enterprise/service provider networks.
Apple is looking for a Network Engineer to join their Global Network Services (GNS) team. The ideal candidate to fill the position will work in a dynamic team environment and be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the global Backbone and Internet peering infrastructure. The candidate is also expected to carry out regular network maintenances to migrate, upgrade and augment the infrastructure that supports both internal and external customers. The candidate is also expected to occasionally participate in network designs, definition and development of toolings and automations to enable large-scale deployment and operations. The ideal candidate will collaborate with vendors on bug fixes and new features, while liaising with peers in Operations/Engineering and Architecture to ensure alignment of technical requirements. The successful candidate will need to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to multi-task and provide not only operational support for the Backbone, but must also work closely with multiple cross functional teams to resolve critical network incidents. This engineer will need to be obsessed with customer experience and drive operational excellence in their everyday work habits through strong technical leadership and mentorship.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 5 years of network operations and/or network design background
- In-depth experience in TCP/IP (v4 and v6)
- Experience operating a large-scale network utilising BGP, RSVP-TE, MPLS, VPNs, IS-IS, and/or OSPF
- Solid understanding of underlying LAN/WAN technologies and protocols.
- Experience supporting large-scale peering/transit networks, with a sound knowledge of complex traffic engineering and Internet routing policies.
- Extensive hands-on experience with carrier-grade routers and operating systems.
- Proficiency in macOS, Linux, or other variations of UNIX.
- Working knowledge of DWDM Optical Transport technologies.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills, including proven abilities to adapt to dynamic project environments, while able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong troubleshooting methodology and experience in an operational environment.
- Fluent spoken and written English and Mandarin are strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree (BA or BS) or equivalent relevant experience; technical degree preferred
- Advanced Network Certifications preferred (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent professional-level certification)
- Experience with one of the following programming languages is a plus: Python, Rust, Go, or C
