Senior Network Engineer
Our client is a New Zealand founded business that's grown into a genuine international player, with its own product engineering and R&D function sitting alongside a busy corporate environment that's actively evolving. Their product side is pushing further into AWS and they have a real appetite to invest in the people running it.
You'll be the senior technical voice in the Network and Operations team, working across a Microsoft and Azure corporate environment and an AWS based product environment, with AWS influence growing every year. You'll design and troubleshoot infrastructure, and act as the natural escalation point when problems get technically or politically difficult.
The role
If you're a strong senior network engineer looking for more than another ticket queue, somewhere your judgement on business risk and your ability to influence stakeholders matters as much as your technical skills, we'd like to hear from you.
If you're ready to take the next step in your career and join a firm that truly values its people, we'd love to hear from you – click Apply to submit your application.
We are only considering applicants who have the right to work and live in New Zealand indefinitely.
You'll be the senior technical voice in the Network and Operations team, working across a Microsoft and Azure corporate environment and an AWS based product environment, with AWS influence growing every year. You'll design and troubleshoot infrastructure, and act as the natural escalation point when problems get technically or politically difficult.
The role
- Designing, implementing and troubleshooting network architecture across Azure, AWS and on premise infrastructure: firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, VPNs and the Fortinet stack (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer).
- Leading triage and resolution of network incidents, and scoping work packages and projects.
- Coaching and mentoring engineers, giving feedback that helps the team grow, not just closing your own tickets.
- Joining design conversations early enough to influence them, not just implement the outcome.
- Translating technical risk into business language for non-technical stakeholders, and pushing back when a request doesn't match the actual business need.
- 5+ years in network engineering, administration or support, ideally including time in a large corporate, managed services or infrastructure provider environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure and AWS (VPC, EC2, S3, ELB, VPN, Transit Gateway, Route 53 or equivalent).
- Solid grounding in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN, BGP, OSPF, and network security fundamentals (firewalls, encryption, authentication and authorisation).
- Comfort with Windows Server and Active Directory environments, plus exposure to infrastructure as code, automation and version control (git, Azure DevOps).
- Genuine curiosity. You keep learning, and you're comfortable with ambiguity and constant context switching across varied issues and projects.
- Azure/AWS certifications and ITIL knowledge are a plus, not a gatekeeper.
