Senior Network Engineer

Summary

The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for designing and managing highly available, resilient network infrastructures, including routing, switching, and firewall platforms. The role involves working with carrier and transport services to ensure robust connectivity.

Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Extensive experience as a Senior Network Engineer, Network Architect, NetOps Engineer, or similar
  • Strong network architecture and design experience
  • Experience designing highly available and resilient network infrastructures
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, and IP networking
  • Experience with multicast networking technologies
  • Experience managing and supporting firewall platforms
  • Experience working with carrier and transport services
  • Practical experience implementing network automation
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages
  • Cloud networking experience within Azure, AWS, or similar environments
  • Experience producing technical design documentation and implementation plans
  • Experience managing network projects through their full lifecycle
  • Experience with NetBox or similar IPAM/DCIM platforms
  • Experience using automation tools such as Ansible
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience
  • Experience within telecoms, ISP, media, or broadcast environments
  • Experience with GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and source control workflows
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement resilient network infrastructure supporting global broadcast and media workflows
  • Produce High Level Designs (HLDs), Low Level Designs (LLDs), and technical documentation
  • Design highly available network solutions with appropriate failover and redundancy mechanisms
  • Lead technical infrastructure projects from design through implementation and operational handover
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of our global network architecture
  • Support and troubleshoot complex routing, switching, and transport network issues
  • Participate in major incident investigations and root-cause analysis
  • Perform capacity planning and network optimisation
  • Maintain network standards, design principles, and engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to improve service reliability and operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain network automation solutions using Python and modern automation tooling
  • Support NetOps initiatives and Infrastructure as Code methodologies
  • Integrate automation into network provisioning, change management, and operational processes
  • Leverage NetBox as a source of truth for network infrastructure management
  • Contribute to CI/CD and GitOps-driven infrastructure workflows where appropriate
  • Procure and manage carrier connectivity including wavelength services, dark fibre, managed Ethernet services, and data centre interconnects
  • Manage relationships with carriers and connectivity providers
  • Validate path diversity and network resilience using physical and logical network analysis
  • Manage optical network connectivity and link budget considerations across the global backbone
  • Design and support network security solutions
  • Administer and support firewall platforms including Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco
  • Support VPN technologies, segmentation, and security policy implementation
  • Work closely with Security teams to improve overall infrastructure security posture
  • Design and support multicast routing solutions within broadcast and media environments
  • Support delivery of high-volume real-time video traffic
  • Troubleshoot multicast-related network issues and optimise traffic delivery
