About this role
Within the Consumer organization, our work centers on helping learners discover, engage with, and realize value from the combined Udemy and Coursera portfolio. The Monetization team plays a critical role in shaping how customers evaluate, purchase, renew, and continue benefiting from our offerings, with a focus on improving learner value, retention, and long-term business outcomes.
We're looking for a Senior Offers and Promotions Strategy Manager to own offer strategy and economics across the combined Coursera and Udemy consumer businesses. This is a newly created role as we bring two major consumer platforms together: you'll be the person who defines how, when, and why we discount — building the frameworks, guardrails, and exception processes that let the business run promotions confidently and consistently at scale.
You'll sit within our Monetization team, reporting to the Director of Commercial Policy and Retention.
About your skills
Commercial Strategy and Analytical Rigor
You turn ambiguous promotional questions into rigorous, numbers-backed answers. You build the uplift models, forecasts, and LTV:CAC frameworks that make trade-offs visible, and you partner fluently with Pricing, Data Science, Finance, and Marketing to translate a promotion idea into a defensible business case.
Framework and Governance Design
You build systems, not one-off decisions. You design discount frameworks and commercial policy guardrails that hold up at scale — clear enough to guide the business confidently, flexible enough to handle exceptions without becoming a bottleneck. You know the difference between a rule that should bend and one that shouldn't.
Cross-Functional Influence
You move offers from idea to execution by building trust across Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Regional teams — not just presenting analysis, but helping each function see their stake in the outcome. You know how to get to "yes" on a shared plan, and how to hold the line when a proposed exception puts the business at risk.
Testing and Measurement
You know how to isolate true incremental lift from cannibalization, and you proactively identify what the business doesn't yet understand about its offers — setting the testing agenda rather than just executing against it.
What you’ll be doing
-
Own end-to-end offer strategy and economics for Coursera and Udemy's consumer businesses, balancing growth, retention, discount mix, and margin impact.
-
Design and maintain discount frameworks and commercial policy guardrails — including approval thresholds, stacking rules, and eligibility logic — that keep promotional activity consistent and financially sound.
-
Build the visibility, tracking, and experimentation agenda needed to measure promotional performance and cannibalization risk, and use that data to continuously refine when and how discounts are deployed.
-
Set the rules for evergreen and seasonal promotions (e.g., Black Friday, back-to-school, New Year), partnering with Pricing, Marketing, Growth, and Regional teams on planning and execution.
-
Build and manage an exceptions process for one-off or non-standard offers, weighing business impact against policy risk.
-
Partner with Finance, Pricing, Data Science, and Legal to evaluate the P&L impact of offers and ensure promotions comply with regulations across markets, acting as the go-to advisor for teams proposing new offers or campaigns.
-
Provide leadership to a small team of promotions specialists without direct management responsibility.
-
Help harmonize offer and promotion practices across Coursera and Udemy as the combined company integrates.
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in pricing, promotions, commercial strategy, or a related field, including managing promotions for a global consumer company.
- A track record of building scalable frameworks and policies, not just running one-off campaigns — you think in systems and guardrails, not just individual offers.
- Strong financial and analytical fluency; comfort quantifying trade-offs between growth, retention, and margin, and communicating them to senior stakeholders.
- Experience in subscription or marketplace consumer businesses (edtech, media, e-commerce, or similar).
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Marketing, and Data/Analytics teams.
- Excellent judgment and communication skills — you'll often be the voice of discipline in fast-moving commercial conversations.
- Comfort operating in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience setting or governing pricing strategy is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with SQL or BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Databricks) to explore promotional and pricing data independently.
- Experience operating across multiple brands or platforms simultaneously.
Compensation
At Udemy, we strive to be transparent around compensation. Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for equity.
