About Uber

Uber’s mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Our Operations teams connect Uber’s technology to the real world, helping drivers succeed while improving marketplace reliability, growth, and customer experience.

About the role

As a Senior Operations Manager in South Africa’s Driver Operations team, you will own high-impact initiatives that grow, engage, and retain Uber’s driver community. You will use data, operational insights, and cross-functional collaboration to improve driver acquisition, onboarding, supply hours, productivity, compliance, and overall driver experience.

South Africa is a complex and highly regulated mobility market. This role will work closely with Local Operations, Marketplace, Product, Marketing, Communications, Legal, Policy, Safety, Compliance, and Data Science teams to deliver scalable solutions for drivers across the country. Current Driver Operations priorities include improving supply efficiency, driver engagement, fleet and independent-operator growth, vehicle access, regulatory readiness, and driver communications.

What you’ll do

  • Own the strategy and execution of driver growth, engagement, retention, and resurrection initiatives across South Africa primarily, as well as extend yourself into the broader Africa region
  • Identify supply gaps and develop data-driven plans to improve active drivers, supply hours, trips per hour, acceptance, and driver productivity.
  • Manage driver lifecycle programs, including acquisition, onboarding, early-life activation, engagement, churn prevention, and win-back.
  • Improve driver funnel performance by identifying operational and product friction points and partnering with Product and Tech on solutions.
  • Lead market-level execution of driver compliance and onboarding programs, including documentation, safety, vehicle, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Policy, and Safety teams to translate regulatory changes into clear operational processes and driver communications.
  • Develop and maintain performance reporting, dashboards, operating cadences, and executive updates.
  • Conduct deep dives into driver sentiment, earnings, supply performance, churn, and operational pain points.
  • Design and optimize driver communications, incentives, events, partnerships, and field programs.
  • Build scalable playbooks and standard operating procedures that can be replicated across South African cities and other EMEA markets.
  • Manage multiple cross-functional projects from problem definition through implementation, measurement, and iteration.
  • Present recommendations and business updates to senior leaders using clear, concise, data-backed storytelling.

Driver Operations work commonly spans acquisition, onboarding, supply-hour optimization, churn, resurrection, compliance execution, CRM communications, sentiment tracking, market insights, and operational governance.

  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
