Senior PHP Engineer
Summary
Senior backend engineer building scalable PHP applications and REST APIs end to end — from architecture and implementation to testing, CI/CD, and deployment — using PHP 8.x, Laravel/Symfony, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and Docker, while mentoring junior developers in a distributed team.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using PHP
- Build and enhance REST APIs, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, implementation, testing, and deployment
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following OOP principles, SOLID practices, and design patterns
- Optimize application performance, database queries, and system reliability
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality features
- Conduct code reviews, contribute to technical discussions, and promote engineering best practices
- Develop and maintain automated tests, ensuring robust and stable software releases
- Contribute to CI/CD processes and containerized application development using Docker
- Support technical planning, estimation, and architectural decision-making within the team
- Mentor junior and middle developers and share knowledge across the engineering organization
- 5+ years of professional PHP development experience
- Strong knowledge of PHP 8.x, OOP, SOLID principles, and software design patterns
- Hands-on experience with Laravel and/or Symfony frameworks
- Strong experience working with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database design
- Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
- Experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with unit and integration testing using PHPUnit and/or Pest
- Strong understanding of software architecture and backend development best practices
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical solutions, and drive initiatives to completion
- English proficiency at B1 level or higher
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a distributed team environment

- Experience with Redis for caching and performance optimization
- Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or other message brokers
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and logging tools
