Senior Planning Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop in conjunction with the Project Team the project planning, programme and delivery strategy for both bids and projects.

  • In conjunction with the project team, develop the preconstruction and construction methodology to enable the most efficient and effective delivery of the project.
  • Develop the project plan, programme and Planning Report in accordance with our planning procedures.
  • Provide experienced based solutions for delivering the project and consideration by the Project Team.
  • Report project progress at regular intervals against the contract and delivery programmes, or other nominated programmes
  • Support the project team in the creation and statusing of medium and short-range programmes.
  • Project Controls - Produce data to support regular status updates and the weekly project dashboard providing updates on progress and key issues.
  • Prepare \ support reports and documents supporting the role of ‘the project conscience’ to inform the Project Senior Leadership Team and the Business Unit on matters related to programme.
  • Assist in chairing the weekly planning meeting to coordinate project programmes, progress update, delay records and key forthcoming milestones.
  • Review change proposals and advise on time impact.
  • Assess and record time impacts of delays – Event Analysis
  • Record as built production rates and delays to provide benchmarking for future projects.
  • In conjunction with the BIM Coordinator, coordinate the 4D BIM model.
  • Facilitate project team understanding and ownership of the plan and programme.
  • Support the development of Project Team Members in the use of Planning technique and tools.
  • Support and input into initiatives to further enhance our Planning Procedures and Processes

Credentials

  • Have a related Chartership such as CIOB.

  • Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role (BSc or MSc in Project Management or Building / Construction Studies or Engineering).

Essential Skills Knowledge Experience & Behaviours

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt approach dependent on the situation and audience.

  • Produce reports and diagrams to a high standard to convey proposed sequences and methodologies.

  • Strong use of Excel (use of formulae, pivot tables etc).

Knowledge

  • Expert / comprehensive understanding of construction methodology, building technology, pre-construction processes and procurement methods.

  • Strong understanding of the primary forms of construction contracts and the key commercial terms.

  • Working knowledge of P6.

  • Strong knowledge of CPA planning techniques and project controls.

Experience

  • Previous experience in delivering project a major new build complex hospital projects
  • Able to draw upon experience in multiple industry sectors.
  • Experience of working under different forms of construction contracts.
  • Strong understanding and experience in the use of P6

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan, ensuring alignment with client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate planning with design and construction.
  • Monitor and control project schedules, identifying potential delays and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare sector regulations and standards, especially in relation to patient safety and facility functionality.
  • Conduct regular progress reviews and provide timely updates to senior management and clients.
  • Manage and resolve complex planning issues, employing innovative solutions when necessary.
  • Foster a collaborative and safe work environment, promoting open communication and teamwork.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in planning methodologies, incorporating them into project planning.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in construction planning, with a proven track record in managing large-scale healthcare projects.
  • Experience in people management, leading and mentoring planning teams.
  • Proficiency in using planning software and tools, such as Primavera or Microsoft Project.
  • Excellent knowledge of healthcare sector standards and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Analytical mindset with a problem-solving approach to complex planning challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A relevant degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body, such as the Association for Project Management (APM) or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), is advantageous.
  • A valid driving license and flexibility to travel to project sites as required.
