Senior Platform Engineer (Java + GCP)
Description
Anaqua is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our platform team, building the shared microservices and Spring Boot libraries every product team relies on. In this hands-on senior individual contributor role, you will help shape company-wide standards for hosting, security, deployment and monitoring, and contribute to the multi-region, high-availability architecture of our GCP-based platform. This is Java and infrastructure work, not a lead or management role.
You'll Love This Job if You Like To:
- Build shared Spring Boot services and libraries — auth, async tasks, replication, observability defaults — that every product team builds on top of.
- Help shape the company-wide playbook for how services get deployed, secured, monitored and rolled back.
- Work on multi-region GCP infrastructure — GKE, global load balancing, autoscaling, zero-downtime deploys with Helm and GitLab CI.
- Contribute to edge and application security — gateway policies, API key and JWT issuance, dependency hygiene, GCP IAM least-privilege.
- Take part in architectural decisions on event sourcing, Pub/Sub topology, schema design and service boundaries, documenting them for the wider team.
- Use AI tooling as a daily collaborator, designing platform contracts that both humans and AI agents can work against.
- Write design docs, RFCs and runbooks, raising the engineering bar through knowledge-sharing rather than gate-keeping.
- Participate in design reviews and platform RFCs, connecting platform work back to product impact.
What You'll Need To Be Successful:
- Deep production Java with Spring Boot — comfortable with transactional boundaries, connection pools, JVM behaviour under load, and how things break in production.
- Hands-on experience building shared platform libraries or Spring Boot starters consumed by other teams — the headline ask for this role.
- Strong infrastructure and DevOps experience on a major public cloud (GCP preferred) — Kubernetes in production (GKE), Helm, multi-region deploys, autoscaling, rollbacks.
- Terraform as a daily tool, and PostgreSQL depth — schema design, indexing, query plans, migrations under load.
- Event sourcing and asynchronous messaging experience, with contract-first API design using OpenAPI.
- Production observability and incident response on GCP, backed by strong testing discipline across unit and integration tests.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with strong customer and business empathy.
- GCP certification, gRPC/Envoy experience, internal developer platform experience, React/Next.js knowledge, or a background in IP/legal-tech/regulated B2B SaaS all an advantage.
