Senior Platform Engineer
Summary
Build and scale cloud platforms using AWS, Kubernetes, and GitOps to improve reliability and developer productivity for a fintech company.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer based in Brazil.
This is a high-impact platform engineering role focused on improving reliability, developer productivity, and the overall software delivery lifecycle at scale. You will shape the technical strategy behind cloud platforms while building tools and workflows that make engineering teams faster and more autonomous. The role combines hands-on engineering with architectural leadership across AWS, Kubernetes, GitOps, observability, security, and DevEx. You will create Golden Paths, self-service capabilities, and standardized practices that reduce friction from onboarding through production delivery. You will also drive modernization, SRE, DevSecOps, FinOps, and AI-assisted engineering initiatives across the organization. Working in a fully remote environment, you will partner with senior technical leaders and engineers to deliver scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-efficient platforms.
Accountabilities:
- Define and guide medium- and long-term platform architecture strategies, ensuring scalability, reliability, efficiency, security, and operational excellence across AWS environments.
- Treat the platform as a product by creating reference architectures, reusable implementations, Golden Paths, standardized scaffolding, and self-service capabilities for engineering teams.
- Design and maintain safe, reusable continuous-delivery workflows using GitHub Actions, GitOps practices, and tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Implement progressive delivery strategies, including canary and blue-green deployments, using Flagger and automated SLO-based rollback mechanisms.
- Manage and optimize Kubernetes environments, including Amazon EKS, using Karpenter, HPA, and KEDA for efficient and event-driven workload scaling.
- Establish observability as a default engineering practice through OpenTelemetry, New Relic, Grafana, and Prometheus, defining SLIs, SLOs, and error-budget policies.
- Strengthen cloud and application security through OAuth2/JWT, secrets lifecycle management, AWS security controls, Policy-as-Code, and Kubernetes admission controls.
- Design and operate reliable event-driven architectures, including Kafka partitioning, compaction, retention strategies, schema evolution, and performance optimization.
- Promote AI-assisted engineering practices that improve code quality, refactoring, operational efficiency, and technical documentation.
- Drive cost-aware architecture and platform efficiency through scalable cloud designs, resource optimization, and engineering best practices.
- Establish technical governance, controls, and standards that support security, compliance, service management, and platform excellence.
- Build and evolve Internal Developer Portals, ephemeral environments, and self-service workflows that improve developer experience and accelerate onboarding.
- Partner with executive leadership and senior/staff-level engineers to translate business objectives into long-term technical direction.
- Mentor technical leaders and influence engineering teams through clear communication, documentation, ADR/RFC practices, feedback loops, and continuous learning.
- Support the implementation of compliance requirements, including PCI-DSS and LGPD, through automated and repeatable technical controls.
- Academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Extensive hands-on software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Java, particularly Spring Boot, as well as TypeScript and/or Python.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), microservices architecture, high availability, and high-performance application design.
- Strong knowledge of Bazel build systems.
- Expert-level practical experience with AWS services, including EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, networking, and security.
- Advanced Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, including modules and policy enforcement, as well as Pulumi and multi-language stacks.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes and Amazon EKS, including Karpenter, Istio, and GitOps technologies such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Strong knowledge of SRE principles and resilience patterns, including circuit breakers, retries, back-pressure, stress testing, and SLO-driven operations.
- Expert understanding of cloud security, including AWS security controls, OPA/Rego policy design, Kubernetes admission controls, image signing, and ECR scanning.
- Strong observability experience with OpenTelemetry and platforms such as New Relic, Grafana, and Prometheus.
- Proven experience building Internal Developer Portals, self-service platforms, and ephemeral development environments.
- Expertise with GitHub Actions, progressive delivery using Flagger, and feature-flag governance.
- Experience with critical workloads and highly regulated environments, ideally within fintech or another financial-services context.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into pragmatic, scalable, and sustainable technical strategies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence senior technical leaders and mentor experienced engineers.
- High degree of autonomy, accountability, and ownership, combined with a strong bias for action in fast-paced environments.
- Strong collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement, constructive feedback, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Ability to translate regulatory and compliance requirements such as PCI-DSS and LGPD into automated technical patterns and controls.
- Competitive, market-aligned salary.
- Fully remote work, enabling you to work from wherever you are in Brazil.
- Monthly home-office allowance deposited through the company app.
- Health and dental plans with no co-pay.
- Life insurance.
- Flexible meal allowance through Flash.
- TotalPass membership to support physical and overall well-being.
- Spanish or Portuguese language classes.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact platform and financial technology challenges.
- Strong exposure to AWS, Kubernetes, GitOps, SRE, DevSecOps, observability, AI-assisted engineering, and modern developer-experience practices.
- Inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences.
