Senior Platform Engineer
Summary
Senior platform engineer (hybrid, New York) at a public safety technology company, building and operating cloud infrastructure and data platforms for large-scale search and retrieval — storage architecture, container orchestration, CI/CD, and compliance-ready environments using AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka, and Python or Go.
About the Role
Join a platform engineering team at a public safety technology company. You will build and operate cloud infrastructure and data systems that support large-scale search and retrieval.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and operate data and infrastructure platforms for large-scale ingestion into object storage and indexing in databases and vector stores.
Shape storage and retrieval architecture, balancing hot and cold storage, distributed databases, and high-throughput messaging and streaming systems.
Deploy and scale containerized services across environments using orchestration platforms, declarative configuration, and GitOps workflows.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and developer tooling for safe, frequent releases.
Help maintain secure, auditable, reliable environments that meet federal or regulated compliance requirements.
Troubleshoot and tune systems across application code, storage, and networking, and mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
What We're Looking For
Five or more years of software engineering experience building and maintaining production systems, with roughly five to ten years of overall experience.
Hands-on experience with AWS production workloads and a strong foundation in distributed systems, backend engineering, and production data pipelines.
Experience designing large-scale data storage and retrieval systems, including hot and cold storage approaches.
Experience owning production systems end to end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, and on-call operations.
Proficiency with relevant tools and technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, GitOps, Python or Go, PostgreSQL, vector databases, S3-compatible object storage, Kafka, ArgoCD, Helm, distributed SQL databases, and observability tools.
Federal or regulated environment experience, including FedRAMP, is beneficial.
