Summary

Senior Power BI SME for HOYTS cinema group, responsible for end-to-end reporting solutions from requirements gathering to semantic modelling and platform administration. You will work with stakeholders to deliver analytics using Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and SQL within a Microsoft Fabric environment.

Salary: Highly attractive salary package and benefits

Many experienced Power BI Developers reach a point where the technical work becomes more sophisticated, but the role itself stays the same.

A stakeholder asks for a dashboard. You build the dashboard.

This is an opportunity to help lift how reporting and analytics are delivered across a business with significant data and an expanding Microsoft data environment.

About HOYTS

HOYTS is Australia and New Zealand's leading cinema business, operating 61 cinema locations with further growth planned. The broader group also includes Val Morgan, spanning cinema and outdoor advertising alongside related media businesses.

Behind that consumer-facing business sits a substantial data estate spanning ticketing, food and beverage, cinema sessions, customer interactions, finance and broader operations. At the same time, Vista is moving towards SaaS, the ERP environment is being modernised and Microsoft Fabric has been selected as the strategic platform for HOYTS' future data foundation.

The Opportunity

HOYTS has progressively developed its Power BI capability internally over the past two to three years. There is already strong knowledge of the business, its systems and its data, with much of the existing capability built through self-directed learning.

The next step is to bring in a senior specialist who will become HOYTS' internal Power BI SME.

You'll work directly with stakeholders to understand the question behind the initial request, then use your judgement to shape the right analytics solution. That means combining strong technical capability with an understanding of why the information matters and how it will ultimately be used.

What You'll Own

Your remit will span requirements, semantic modelling, report delivery and the ongoing Power BI environment.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Translating business requirements into practical reporting and analytics solutions
  • Designing high-quality reports, dashboards and paginated reports
  • Building and optimising semantic models, datasets, dataflows, DAX measures and calculation logic
  • Administering Power BI Service across workspaces, apps, deployment pipelines, gateways and capacity
  • Strengthening security, row-level access, governance and performance
  • Troubleshooting reporting, semantic model and platform issues
  • Supporting knowledge transfer, coaching and self-service analytics across the business

Why This Role Is Different

You'll work alongside a new Data / Fabric Engineer focused primarily on the underlying Fabric platform, pipelines and engineering processes. This allows you to focus deeply on Power BI while remaining closely connected to the broader data environment.

You'll also stay across Microsoft's continued development of Power BI and Fabric, helping HOYTS identify and adopt relevant new capabilities as the platforms evolve.

About You

You'll bring deep hands-on Power BI capability developed within a complex reporting or analytics environment.

You'll be strong across semantic modelling, DAX, Power Query/M and SQL, with a solid understanding of Power BI Service, workspaces, deployment pipelines, gateways, capacity, security, governance and performance optimisation. Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or another modern Microsoft cloud data platform will also be valuable.

Just as importantly, you'll have the judgement and communication skills to work credibly with non-technical stakeholders and challenge assumptions constructively.

Working at HOYTS

This is a permanent full-time position based at HOYTS' Sydney Head Office, with hybrid working available once established in the role.
