What you’ll achieve
In this role, you'll leverage your product design background to influence how Dell's next generation of server and storage products are designed, built, and brought to market. Your engineering foundation will be critical as you collaborate with global teams across engineering, marketing, procurement, and program management to ensure every product delivers the right balance of design excellence, performance, quality, cost, and customer value.
You will:
- Lead Design-Driven Cost Strategy — Apply your product design expertise to develop and present server and storage structural cost targets from concept through planning, communicating insights to audiences ranging from working teams to senior executives
- Bridge Design and Cost Insights — Leverage your understanding of hardware design principles to partner with Engineering, Marketing, Program Management, and Procurement, delivering component-level and system-level cost analysis, including Technology Tax, Design to Value (DtV), and Design to Cost (DtC) recommendations
- Optimize Through Design Intelligence — Lead cost reduction initiatives by identifying design-driven opportunities through product development collaboration, procurement strategy, and competitive product teardown analysis
- Guide Design Trade-Off Decisions — Evaluate engineering trade-offs between design complexity, manufacturability, reliability, and cost to recommend optimal product architectures
- Ensure Program Alignment — Maintain cost analysis schedules and ensure deliverables align with program milestones and core team objectives
- Influence Product Roadmaps — Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on design-cost-performance tradeoffs that shape future product direction

Essential Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in product design engineering, hardware development, or cost/value engineering
- 5+ years specifically in server or storage product design, including hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electrical design of enterprise hardware systems
- Strong knowledge of product design lifecycle — from concept development, prototyping, and design validation through mass production
- Demonstrated ability to translate design decisions into cost implications and vice versa
- Proven ability to manage complex programs with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
Desirable Requirements
- Deep familiarity with x86 server architectures, including thermal design, power delivery, system integration and hands-on experience with product teardown and competitive benchmarking from a design perspective
- Understanding of Design for Cost (DtC), Design for Value (DtV), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies and Familiarity with component technologies including PCBAs, heatsinks, sheet metal, cables, connectors, and plastic enclosures
Compensation
Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $181,500 -$234,000.
