If so, Sandia National Laboratories' Science and Information Engineering System's group is seeking a motivated Software Solution Architect to join the Design and Development Solutions team in analyzing, designing, developing, and deploying innovative software solutions to meet our mission customers' needs.

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to help design, integrate, and support complex mission-enabling information systems. In this role, you will facilitate technical planning and problem-solving; troubleshoot issues across presentation, application, and data layers; and coordinate with software, database, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and stakeholder teams to implement and support practical software solutions. You will evaluate architecture options, document system components and interfaces; communicate risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences; and help guide decisions involving web services, databases, containerized environments, security vulnerabilities, and system dependencies. This position requires strong technical judgment, collaborative leadership, and the ability to translate complex needs into actionable architecture and implementation plans.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Support applications and integrations involving Java, RESTful APIs, SOAP services, and other service-based architectures.
• Facilitate team planning, brainstorming, and problem-solving sessions to develop actionable technical plans.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across presentation, application, and data layers in a 3-tier infrastructure.
• Coordinate with software, database, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other subject matter experts to resolve technical issues.
• Analyze system behavior, dependencies, logs, data flows, and operational impacts to support root-cause analysis.
• Develop and communicate practical recommendations for resolving application, service, database, or deployment environment issues.
• Participate in cross-team collaboration meetings with technical staff, stakeholders, and partner organizations across the NSE complex.
• Design, evaluate, and document system or software architecture components, interfaces, dependencies, and design decisions.
• Support containerized application deployments using platforms such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.
• Identify, assess, communicate, and support remediation of cybersecurity vulnerabilities in application and deployment environments.
• Translate complex technical findings into clear explanations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Identify risks, tradeoffs, options, and implementation considerations to support informed technical decision-making.

*The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

• Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus five or more years of experience, or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

• Proficiency developing, maintaining, integrating, and troubleshooting Java-based applications in agile team environments.
• Experience designing, developing, consuming, or supporting RESTful APIs, SOAP services, or similar service-based architectures.
• Experience designing, querying, integrating with, and supporting relational databases and SQL-based data systems.
• Experience developing, deploying, or supporting containerized applications using OpenShift, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.
• Working knowledge of software security principles, vulnerability assessment, remediation, and risk communication.
• Experience modeling system or software architectures, including components, interfaces, dependencies, data flows, and design decisions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues and identify root causes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines, incorporate diverse perspectives, and contribute to shared team outcomes.
• Experience with data virtualization platforms such as Denodo Virtual DataPort or comparable integration technologies.
• Architecture certification such as TOGAF, DoDAF, Zachman, C4, UML/SysML, or another relevant credential.
• Experience working with NoSQL database technologies, such as document, key-value, or comparable data stores.
• Ten or more years of relevant professional experience across software development, databases, web services, containers, cybersecurity, architecture, and cross-team collaboration.
