Senior Procurement Manager – Japan (Civil & Electrical BOP)

The Opportunity

We have an immediate opportunity to support key clients with procurement across renewable energy projects in Japan, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), onshore wind, and supporting power infrastructure.

You will work on complex, high-value projects, delivering strategic procurement and commercial solutions in a dynamic market with evolving regulatory requirements and supply chain challenges.

The role will focus on end-to-end procurement and commercial management of major project packages, including:

  • Civil Balance of Plant (BOP) works
  • Electrical Balance of Plant (E-BOP) works
  • Grid connection infrastructure
  • Substations and transmission assets
  • EPC and multi-package delivery models
  • Utility interface requirements
  • Local contractor and supplier engagement

The role will also support:

  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects
  • Onshore wind developments
  • Hybrid renewable energy projects
  • Grid modernization and power infrastructure initiatives
  • Emerging energy technologies and investment opportunities across Japan

Role & Responsibilities

Procurement & Commercial Management

  • Lead end-to-end EPC and BOP procurement for energy projects in Japan, including civil works, electrical infrastructure, substations, grid connection works, and other balance-of-plant packages
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project objectives, delivery schedules, and commercial targets
  • Manage tender processes including RFI, RFQ, and RFP activities, contractor engagement, bid evaluation, negotiation, and contract award
  • Interface closely with development, engineering, investment teams, and the Global BESS Package Manager to align procurement strategies with project requirements
  • Structure and negotiate EPC and multi-package contracts, including risk allocation, interface management, warranties, and performance guarantees
  • Support cost estimation, budgeting, benchmarking, and market analysis for local project packages
  • Ensure compliance with Japanese regulations, permitting requirements, utility standards, and grid connection obligations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Japanese contractors, utilities, engineering firms, and suppliers
  • Provide local market expertise and procurement support during project development and execution phases
  • Deliver commercial solutions that optimise project outcomes across cost, schedule, quality, and risk​‌

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a motivated procurement professional with strong experience in energy storage or complex energy infrastructure.

Desirable Experience:

  • Significant experience in procurement, commercial management, contracts management, or supply chain management within the Japanese energy or infrastructure sector
  • Proven experience procuring EPC, Electrical BOP, Civil BOP, Substation, Transmission, Distribution, Grid Connection, or other major infrastructure packages
  • Strong understanding of Japanese supplier markets, contracting practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience managing complex contractor negotiations and procurement processes
  • Experience supporting renewable energy, utilities, power generation, transmission & distribution, or major infrastructure projects
  • Understanding of EPC delivery models and multi-package contracting strategies
  • Strong commercial acumen and contract negotiation skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Structured and analytical working approach
  • Relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • Full professional fluency in Japanese
