Senior Product Designer AI

You will own end-to-end design for GitLab's AI suite, from early exploration through polished, shipped experiences. You will create flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for AI agents and developer chat experiences. You will define success criteria, use evidence to guide decisions, and collaborate with product management, engineering, and technical writing. You will set visual and interaction design standards, shape roadmap direction with research and design explorations, contribute AI patterns to the Pajamas Design System, and mentor designers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end design for AI experiences, from exploration through polished execution.
  • Create flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Design intuitive interfaces for AI agents and seamless chat experiences for developers.
  • Determine when AI is the appropriate solution versus a traditional approach.
  • Break complex AI experiences into iterative releases.
  • Define success criteria and use evidence to guide decisions.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, and technical writing to ship work.
  • Set visual and interaction design quality standards and provide constructive feedback.
  • Shape roadmap direction using user evidence, journey maps, storyboards, and design explorations.
  • Enable designers to apply AI capabilities effectively.
  • Contribute AI-specific patterns to the Pajamas Design System.
  • Mentor designers and participate in hiring through candidate interviews and portfolio evaluations.

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating design thinking and iteration, ideally including AI or machine learning products, agentic workflows, or natural language interfaces.
  • Experience designing AI workflows, including multi-step, agentic, or automated processes.
  • Strong interaction and visual design craft.
  • Experience conducting research and translating findings into design decisions.
  • Experience working iteratively in agile product development.
  • Experience designing in complex enterprise contexts.
  • Working knowledge of Git, HTML, CSS, accessibility best practices, and design systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
