Senior Product Designer

This is a role for a senior designer who wants to get close to real user problems and have a say in what gets built, rather than picking up finished requirements at the end of the process.Senior Product Designer, Design PlatformNewcastle upon Tyne | Hybrid, One Trinity GardensYou’ll be joining at a point when important parts of our Design Platform are still being defined.You’ll work with Product Managers, Engineers, QA and our AI Platform team from early discovery through to shipped and validated features. The problems are complex: specification, product information and workflows that help construction professionals discover, specify and source the products they need.Some of those workflows do not have established answers yet. You’ll use research, usability testing, customer conversations and evidence to understand the real problem, explore different approaches and make clear design decisions.What you’ll actually be doing:Lead complex product-design work from early discovery and problem framing through to released, validated features.Get close to users through research, usability testing and customer conversations.Create and test wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs before they move into development.Work with Product and Engineering on trade-offs between customer value, technical viability and commercial priorities.Take ownership of key parts of our shared design system as the platform grows.Use analytics, support insight and customer feedback to spot usability problems and design debt.Mentor other designers and contribute to design strategy, roadmap thinking and stronger ways of working.Explore how AI-assisted design tools and practices can improve the way we understand problems, test ideas and deliver products.What we’re looking forExperience designing complex SaaS or similarly information-rich digital products.Strong product design, UX and interaction design capability.A portfolio that shows how you think through difficult problems, not only the finished interface.Experience taking work from discovery and research through to delivery.Confidence working closely with Product and Engineering, making trade-offs and explaining your thinking.Experience contributing to design systems and scalable product experiences.What you’ll getYou’ll have meaningful ownership of design work on a platform that is still evolving, with room to influence the product experience, our shared design system and how the team approaches design.You’ll also build deep knowledge of a specialist industry.
