About Kota
Kota is reimagining insurance and retirement benefits for the modern workforce. Through our two flagship products, Kota Platform, the first fully integrated benefits platform, and Kota Embed, our embedded insurance solution. We're making benefits more accessible, valued, and global.
We power benefits for tens of thousands of employees at Europe's most forward-thinking companies, including Carwow, Tines, Zoe, and Remote. Founded in 2022, we've raised more than €20M from investors such as EQT Ventures, Eurazeo, Northzone, and Frontline, as well as founders and executives from Workday, Remote, Personio, and OpenAI.
The Role & Team
We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer to join the Embed team, the squad that puts Kota's benefits products inside the payroll and HR platforms our partners already run. It's a product engineering role with a frontend lean: you'll spend most of your time in TypeScript and React, but you'll also work across APIs, SDKs, webhooks and backend services when the problem takes you there. We don't expect depth in everything, but we expect strong frontend engineering skills and the confidence to work across the stack when needed.
Embed is how Kota reaches employers who never come to us directly. Partners integrate us through our APIs and SDKs, so the surface belongs to someone else: the experience has to feel native inside a product you don't control, work across partners with different rules, and convert people who weren't looking for insurance when they logged in. What you build helps real people access the benefits that matter to them, so the bar for polish and reliability is high
We want someone who starts with the customer, not the code. You'll join client calls, explain your thinking to non-technical people as clearly as to engineers, and own decisions from initial design through to validating we solved the problem. We want you proactively adding to the roadmap, not just picking up tickets. This is an autonomous role. You'll be trusted to make product calls, not just technical ones.
What You'll Do
Design and build the embedded experiences partners integrate: enrolment, plan selection, quotes, dependants and renewals, plus the component and SDK layer behind them
Work across the full stack, from React and TypeScript through to backend services and APIs. Follow the problem across repos without arriving expert in every language we use
Join client and partner calls where it helps. You should be comfortable working directly with both customers and partner engineering teams.
Proactively shape the roadmap. We want ideas, not just delivery against a spec
Own technical architecture, including how we support different partners and use cases without unnecessarily fragmenting the product.
Build and maintain the integrations behind it: partner APIs, webhooks, and the theming that makes Kota feel native in someone else's product
Collaborate closely with Product, Design and our forward deployed engineers to ship experiences that work end to end
Use AI actively for building, reviewing, and speeding up how you ship. We expect this, not just tolerate it
Improve the stability and observability of what you own, including visibility into integrations running inside partner products
Contribute to code reviews, technical planning, and high standards without bureaucracy
Help shape how the team works. We'll look to you for leadership as it grows
What We're Looking For
6+ years building production software, with real strength in TypeScript and React (or equivalent modern web UI experience you can map to our stack quickly)
Familiarity with the kind of stack we run: component-driven UIs, typed APIs, monorepos, solid automated testing. You don't need Effect or React Router 7, but you should be excited to learn our conventions rather than fight them
Comfort outside your primary stack. You've shipped meaningful changes across different codebases, languages or services, and you're confident following a problem wherever it leads.
A clear communicator. You can explain a technical decision to an engineer and to a customer, and you know which version to use with which audience
Willing to join client calls when it helps, even if not customer-facing by default
A bias to bring ideas, spotting problems and opportunities before they're handed to you
Experience designing and maintaining third-party API integrations, and a healthy assumption that the other system will eventually misbehave
Strong taste in design and UX, particularly in flows where drop-off matters. Bonus for embedded, white-label or multi-tenant products, or design systems other engineers consume
Cloud experience with Azure or AWS. You don't need to be an infra engineer, but you should own what you ship
You think carefully about reliability, security and compliance, and you're comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-growing startup
AI-forward mindset. We use AI daily for coding, review and improving how we work, and we expect you to as well
Why Join Us?
Technically interesting problem - a product that lives inside other companies' products. Multi-partner theming, surfaces you don't control, conversion where nobody arrived looking for you
Modern stack - TypeScript, React Router, Vite, Tailwind, Turborepo, Effect, Node, .NET, Azure/AWS, event driven
Agency - we hire people and trust them. You'll own meaningful parts of the system end to end
Customer proximity - you'll hear directly from the people using what you build
High-quality culture - you'll work with people who sweat the details
Impact from day one - small, focused team. What you build ships fast and matters
AI-first - we invest heavily in AI tooling and aren't precious about the spend
Our Hiring Process
We like to keep things simple and respectful of your time.
Introductory Call (30 mins): A casual chat with one or two of our product team. We'll learn about you and tell you more about Kota and the role
Technical Interview (~90 mins): A collaborative, open-book session with two engineers, sometimes split across two sessions. You'll work through a real-world problem together. We focus on how you think
Call with Founders (30 mins): We'd love to share our vision and hear your thoughts
Final Response: We'll follow up promptly with next steps
