Senior Product Owner

Summary

Leads the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of digital products for a government agency focused on natural hazard insurance and research, aligning business needs with technology outcomes.

About the role | Mō te mahi

We are looking for a Senior Product Owner to lead the delivery, evolution and optimisation of our digital products and technology solutions.

Reporting to the Manager Product Ownership, you will translate business needs into prioritised outcomes and guide initiatives from concept through to implementation - ensuring our enterprise systems remain fit for purpose, secure and aligned with our Data and Digital Strategy. Working closely with business teams, strategic partners and vendors, you will play a key role in realising business value and shaping the direction of our products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Set the product vision, strategy and roadmap, aligning stakeholders and priorities to deliver clear business outcomes.
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of digital initiatives, ensuring agreed scope, timelines, budget, quality and outcomes are achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement using performance data, insights and feedback to enhance product value and user experience.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders, partners and vendors to support strong decision-making and delivery.
  • Develop business cases and manage budgets to support prioritisation and ensure investments deliver value.
  • Champion best practice, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information across business and technology teams.

Skills & Experience| Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in product ownership, product management or delivery leadership.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing and managing product roadmaps, backlogs and budgets, and aligning these to organisational objectives and customer needs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver business and technology outcomes in complex environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills across all organisational levels.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and translate complex concepts for varied audiences.
  • A relevant bachelor's degree in business, information technology or a related field, or equivalent work experience
